Quick Question: Going in Reverse...

Hey guys, just picked up my Yeti XL:ror::ror::ror:

Have a quick question though- I noticed to go in reverse I must press the trigger down twice instead of once like on the Axial SCX10. Is there a way to change this?

Also- is it normal for a few sparks to come out of the connector when connecting the batteries. I noticed that there was no power switch... and when I connect the battery this sometimes happens.

Sorry for the Newbie questioning but I am still (by definition) new at this

Thanks!

I now see that the sparks are normal- but does anyone know about the reverse issue? Is this normal (can I change it)?

Thanks!

Yup sparks are normal. 6S sparks you can weld with.

The reverse is built in from Castle/Axial as a safety thing so you don't go in reverse too quickly and bind the drivetrain. I have never owned a Sidewinder but if you have a Castle link you probably can change it but it will always have a delay in it.

Alright cool! Just out of curiosity- has anyone had their side panels (any lexan parts) sheer off of the frame.

I just took it down to a park and after a few roll overs I noticed a screw was bent and two of the side panel pieces had ripped off from their mounting screw....

I understand I rolled it (and should probably expect some damage) but it seemed kind of excessive...

Is this common?

Thanks- and NOT the best thing to do 2 hours out of the box!

mine were both 10 feet off the ground within an hour of being built. Drive it like you stole it "thumbsup"

the plastic shell pieces are a joke and break/tear apart very quick.

So this happens to everyone? I would feel really bad if it was just me....

I had one side tear just past the screw hole near the front wheel. I think the body was a little too low and it took all the weight of the car when it flipped upside down.

Nope Not you. So far just the right front inner fender one. A washer and some CA and it hasn't pulled out in the last 4 runs. You get tire on panel rubbing on full compression but that's ok with me. Once these panels have had it i will get Barndog Racing ones.

it happens to anyone who actually uses the Yeti XL. XL's you see with no damaged panels have not been used much, if at all. my XL kit body has 10 zip-ties, in different locations, holding the plastic parts to the cage.

Sweet! I guess it means I am part of the club:lmao: ...... Does anyone know if the Carbon Fiber panels hold up any better?

BarnDog Racing any better? Does anyone run these/have experience with them... They look cool!

I'm using the barndog panels, plus I'm the guy he made the interior panel for to replace the drivers. I've done a fair amount of beating the hell out of them and I suspect they're helping out the plastic in certain limited situations.

But besides that, they look cool and that's really what matters, isn't it? :)
I've got to snap some pics of the XL now that it's good and road rashed up.

So no sheering off of screws when rolling over or just (general) cracking/snapping/breaking when messing around? I think I may go with these...

nice interior btw!

One thin I would like to be improved on is the center strength of the cage in a downward motion. On 1/5 scale trucks they have pins in the side for added strength. If you push on the cage roof you can see it flex because it is supported on the front and rear, the panels do help strengthen it up.I have been messing around with little braces that go out from the cage and sit on the chassis top to help support it.

One day out of the box...:cry::cry::cry::cry:

Guess I should have tightened the hex head bolts before doing donuts on gravel and sand!

@Barndog Racing - Just out of curiosity, would it be possible to extend the side panels to cover the wheel wells as the lexan panels currently do. I believe there is a screw (now a zip tie for for me8)) where it could connect.

I've been running the carbon side panels and hood for some time now. Other than some minor scratches, I haven't noticed and cracking, splitting, etc. I don't run the roof panel though, I've had the same Carter Fab one since the beginning and it's taken a beating as well. As a matter of fact, with the many crashes, cartwheels, flips, etc. I've had, the rear section of the cage and chassis supports are all that I've broken (I only run on 6S). The carbon are a bit spendy but IMO they were worth the coin. If Barndog had released his panels sooner, I probably would've ended up with his instead. His panels for the Team Chase Cage (Hpi Baja) are bad***!
