OK so preety soon it will be summer and i have a "HUGE" project ahead of me and no not work wise, it's size. This thing towers over my creeper. The project is to convert a Fast Lane RC Hummer H1 in to a all out go anywhere crawling machine for my little brother. It already has 4WD but the diffs need locking and the stock motors (moa) are the same size as hobby grade. so should i just do a gear and motor swap, or buy new axles for it. the current suspension is junk less than half an inch of travel. and the scale is unknown. I'd like to hear what your oppinions are, This will be a build built by the people. but please note that updates will be far between due to lack of funds right now. but once we can get the money together it should be worth the wait.

here is a bad pic but you can kinda see just how big this thing is it's the big yellow thing that says HUMMER on the back

I'll post some better pics of it with my creeper for size comparison and some pics of the axles and any others that you might ask for to better help you help me thanks in advance.

Looks like maybe 1/6 or 1/5 th scale, but it's hard to tell, if the chassis is the one in front on the left with the blue shocks, it's a "toy quality" RC vehicle, with hard plastic tires/wheels and plastic gears with plastic bushings ect. according to your intended goal, not worth upgrading. The info you have given is incomplete and a little sketchy, my advice would be, First, try to get a better picture of the vehicle in question, list make/ model #, or at least break out the tape measure and post some numbers eg. length, width, wheelbase ect.
Second, explain your statement... "This will be built by the people". Who are these people? This could be mistaken as an attempted request for donations, please clarify.

OK first I'll clarify that "by the people" means i'll be using your suggestions on this build sorry for the misunderstanding. As for the blue shocked POS it's my little brothers New Bright crawler and it's not worth the plastic it's made from. the rig in question is the big yellow one in the background with the white roll of duct tape in the bed. The rough dimmensions are 'bout 2'-6" long by 1'-6" wide give or take a few i'll take measurements when i get home along with better pics. thanks for pointing that out.

So I've found out that I'm not the only one trying to convert a rig of this size. There's a Guy with a Jeep similar to this who wants to do the same thing so help us out please

Not to sound rude, but help you with what? Please take a LOT more pictures of it, assembled and disassembled, because you've told us virtually nothing about that thing in the background. It won't cost you squat to do that! :)

Some times it pays off to use the search function, not always, but I found these in less than 5 min.

If you take a little more time than I did, I'm sure you will find a bunch more.
If you run into any problems, ask very 'specific' questions with as much detail as possible, we will always be happy to help where we can.

Sorry i've been meaning to take better pics but i have'nt had time it's finals week at school. but i just finished my last class and am off for two weeks to take pics and do some searching. totaly forgot about the search feature thanks:oops:

I have a similar size jeep that you saw, but mine is from "planet toys". Mine is also only 2wd but has the MOA, I havet decided on if I will just use the body and get a chassis for it, but it is going to take a lot of work and time.

Sorry I am not much help, but when it comes to doing something that is this custom it just takes imagination and skills...

Okay, I'll bite.

First, remove the body.

Second, scrap the rest.

Looking at the third photo it doesn't appear to have any articulation in the chassis at all. It won't be able to crawl over a stack of magazines on the living room floor with a suspension like that. If you want an "all out go anywhere crawling machine" you're pretty much going to have to start from scratch. Is that something you want to attempt?

yeah I planed on making it a four or three link suspension, along with running the springs seprate from the dampers like the Tamaiya FJ40. I'm hoping to keep the chassis and mod it to keep the weight. so what do you recomend for axels I'd like to keep it MOA so I dont have to replace drive shafts for my brother. he wants to crawl it but cant grasp the concept of slow and steady.

From the underside picture I would first cut off both axles and just leave the center plastic. For axles I would look at some clod axles and use wheel wideners to get the width you need they are MOA another place to look is RedCatRacing, they have a truck called the Rockslide its 1/8th scale and it too is MOA. Next lay everything out where you think you want is and make some links. Traxxas rod ends and 1/4 inch aluminum rod is all I use, for about 15 bucks you can make 20 links +/-. Once you have the basic set up built you well see everything clearly. You can measure for shocks, check bind and tire rub, notice weak spots. Starting out building off of the stock plastic is what I would do. Its there why not mess with it a little. Once its build you can make a chassie out of aluminum plate and more 1/4 inch rod. You can PM me if you want more ideas."thumbsup"

step 1- remove body
step 2- order super bully axles
step 3- build chassis and links to suit
step 4- step 5- order everything else needed to complete

thanks thats realy helpful."thumbsup" but instead of cutting them off I'll just undo the screws that hold them on.

Fine if you want to do it the hard way:mrgreen: You don't find the guys that tell you to buy expencive parts and keep nothing from the original? I guess they missed the part about giving it away when your done. :flipoff:

Yeah. So I made some estimations for the links and decided to nix my three link idea and stick with a triangulated four link
