So seeking some advice and options. I've had 2 txt based custom builds for 20yrs now. I've got a 1/6 TJ body I wanna go bigger with. My txts were 10th CJ bodies with the big Imex clod swamp Dawgs.

Txt axles are iirc 9.75" wide. I'm looking at hop up scx6 parts as a base. What are those measuring? I'm going to use either the XL rockers or more likely the 2.9 7"+ tall scale tires since those equal a 17" rim and a 43" tire.

I'd like to do an opening hood with a "dummy" motor cover to look like a V8 in there. Are the scx6 trans/xcase usable in a front mounted engine configuration?

Any other vehicles to look at for a bit wider but still scale axle setup and an actual motor/trans/xcase powertrain setup more like a real jeep?

I like this idea! I was thinkin about turning my TJ into an LJ or even a Brute. I read somewhere that the RC4WD Wraith sized D44 axles were the right size for the 1/6 TJ. I narrowed a set under my CJ6 and the scale appearance is awesome!

I'm curious to see this pull together.

This should be an excellent engine cover choice, to go under the hood...

I do have that sitting on my bookshelf. I suppose one could hollow it out to fit around a motor. Nice idea.

I'm sure I'll want to do an LJ next to match my 1:1 so I may just go budget scx6 stuff like the injora axles and if they don't quite fit the bill look at something else for round 2.

My nephew wants a bigger one so he'll get my txt and we can always start another to upgrade. He said today he wants it to look like a willys truggy

I've got 3 48 willys pick ups waiting for attention too btw, see your name and pic may lead you to like that.

Although I've got too many projects and not enough time or money.

Always upgrading my 80 CJ7 and 2010 power wagon. My grandpa's 60 falcon and then future builds..

on my 1/6 nylint jeep i have ar60s under it inhad to use wheel spacers to get the wheels were i wanted them i think the rift axles are wider than the ar60s if i was gona do it again i would use the rift axles the scx6 axles i think are 14" wide way to wide for what i need but might fit your body but there just to big for the nylint

i thought i had alot of cars but seeing your colection i guess im just normal lol
k5 blazer on 38s
scout 2 expo rig with cab over on 33s
ford diesel aftermarket turdbo 20lbs of boost and 455 gears and still slower than a snail climbing mount everest
2 vws 1 convertable bug and one pop top camper bus
and 5 subarus i get them for free they seem to seek me out i use them off road and there alot of fun to beat on in the desert and cheap so cheap to fix its crazy

The SCX6 axle including the stock tires is about 14 3/4" wide.

The SCX6 tranny is combined with the transfer case. You may be able to scoot it forward but you'll probably be limited by the transfer case.

So hex to hex would be just over 12"?

Seen the wheel/tire was 2.05" somewhere and I'm assuming around center of wheel is mounting surface.

That definitely is better than the txts. I'd say around 1.5" wider per side.

I believe it's a new bright body. 9.5" wide. Has the seats, dash, steering wheel. Planning on slicing the hood at seem to make it openable and highline the fenders.

Next one will most likely be an LJ with thin gauge sheet metal body

My 1/6 Newbright TJ body is 12.5" at the flairs. If your body is 9.5", I'd love to see pics of it. That would mean it's in the realm of 1/7 scale...very unique. "thumbsup"

...and, if you've got any pics of these...

I'd be seriously, interested! You can post them here if you like.

What's yalls advice, preference, experiences with brushless motors?

Ordered axles, shafts, wheels, tires, debating some brake disc's and probably order the trans piece by piece as I see no aftermarket options.

Which leads to electronics so I can mock up a frame. I like the spektrum firms but I like the hobby wing price better.

I'll try to copy some links at what I'm considering. But would like a "here's what to look for" from all you experienced gurus as I can wire and weld and build but I don't know jack about the ins and outs of what should be used.

Will probably be a bit heavier than a standard scx6 and more crawling than bashing so I'm thinking low end torque is where I want it. So a 2600kv??? Probably go 3s but would like to be able to go more later on if needed.

The only motor stuff I've done is putting 45t lathes in my txt so what's the secret to telling what a brushless motor will do? I know in brushed the more turns the more torque but you lose high end rpms... is it kinda the opposite with brushless? Lower the kv the lower the range for operating torque is?

I chopped flares... I'm a no flare kinda guy. No flares on my CJ and the LJ will also get de-flared

Considering these. Am I over doing it or on right track?

I will be needing a new receiver transmitter too and I like the idea of the spektrum rugged but are there better or good enough cheaper options?

Got the wheels and shafts in today...
WOW! The size difference between these KYX axle shafts and the TXTs I'm used to are unreal!!!

Good sized box from horizon showed up today.

Mounted tires on wheels to get a beginning mock up stance.

Think I'll be comp cutting rear to get a bit more WB out of it.

Pic looks like it sits kinda high but it really ain't bad in person. We'll see once I make decision on shocks.

Overall compared to the TXT it looks like it'll be about an inch wider, outside tire width. With front axle pushed up a tad and rear centered in well it's 1.75 inches longer WB. So a comp cut should get me another maybe 2".

These tires are a tad taller but being narrower really make them look right.

And once I get the trans put together with motor mounted I'll be taking measurements for this to go in!

Cool project man. I think the TXT axles look perfect for a 1\10 scale monster truck axle where the SCX6 axles look the part for a large scale 1 ton axle.

Well it's been too long sitting on the shelf so I got something going again today. Assembled the trans. Small deal I know but it's better than nothing like it has been lately.

I still need to decide on shocks then I can mock up a frame.

Couple things I ran into.... the vid I watched of assembling an SCX6 trans showed a few shims on main shaft. I ordered all the parts shown on the parts list and shims are not on there. Anyone know if they're available or can I run it without them. It's just a little play front to rear on the main gears, I don't think it'll be a huge issue.

The other is I got a Spektrum Firma motor/ESC combo and it doesn't fit the motor plate. Is the vitavon sliding plate what I need to fit this?

Motor is the 1/7 scale I believe for the Kratom, #SPMXSM1200
4 pole, 3-8s, 1250kv with the smart waterproof ESC

Good setup or should I just unload this and look at the blackjacket?

we need more large scale stuff

Injora from Amazon. Says unavailable now but stated as "CNC Aluminum alloy" they are not magnetic so I'd say they're true aluminum.
