Get your fiscal house in order: China warns US as superpower expresses concern for $1.3tn of investments

'Clock is ticking', says Chinese minister, as US fails to break deadlock over government shutdown and fast-approaching ‘debt ceiling’ deadline........

Now we are being pushed around by China. And Obama is to much of a bitch to do anything. My guess he pawns Air Force One.

We are probably sending China enough money in Aid to pay our bills. We borrow it from them, then send it back to them. Sad part is that it would make a terrible plot in a bad movie, but it is real.

More sadly, Tom Clancy died last week.

We've been doing that for decades. Shit, we're probably solely responsible for their industrial growth that makes them what they are today.

I'd also like to point out that they only hold 8% of our debt. Hardly much to leverage with. And, if we tank, they tank. All they can do is 'warn' and 'express concern'.

It's a wonder why the rest of the world are being quiet about this shutdown. We default and the rest of the world economy will feel the pain as well.
Most of U.S. debt is to it's citizens.

I vote we tell china to fawk off and embargo them

as I said in another thread....

bob1961 said:
I say pull all our troops to cover our boarder here....then stop sending all OUR money overseas and stop being the worlds police :flipoff: ....oh yeah one other thing, stop sending OUR food overseas to feed there hungry....we have plenty of hungry here that is not getting food now :x ....

fuk the rest of the world, let them fend for themselves "thumbsup" ....

our government is an embarrassment and the worlds joke.

In times of prosperity a dem can preside. We have lots of money and they want to give it all away. In times of famine, we need a republican, someone who is not afraid to make the hard decisions, and not apologize for them. If Hillary gets elected next, the world as it has been will cease to exist. The people will always vote themselves more free stuff, and the earners will just take their ball and go somewhere else. It just leaves a bunch of people with a hand out, and nothing to put into it.

Then this is what happens.

I kind of agree, but it seems the republicans excel at putting themselves in positions that create the famine and neccecitate making the hard decisions.

Reagan raised the spending limit 16 or so times to fund our national defence, we jumped into Desert Storm in Bush's term. Clinton was able to get spending under control and even give a bit more back to the people, but we weren't at war then. In comes Bush Jr and 9/11, and we go back to occupying the middle east again, killing our budget. We were still there when Obama took over, and while we are slowly pulling troops home, its still costing us an insane amount of money.

Much of the financial crisis has its roots in the 80's when bank regulations were scaled way back, and we opened up overseas trading. There were no democrats in the white house then...

Having said that, pointing fingers to the past does not solve anything.

while trying to avoid getting into archaeology of politics and presidents due to its impossibility to win or even tie a debate.

Clinton received the internet boom.

Bush received the twin towers boom.

Reagan was at the peak of the cold war.

Obama received the ressession / depression

each moment cant fairly be compared to each other.
its just not as simple as baseball.

one thing they all have in common is corruption.

Well said"thumbsup"

Its because they can't do anything. Or, they aren't worried.

Anything we do has a tremendous impact on the rest of the worlds economy. We weren't the only ones to feel the blow when our bubble burst. It took down most of Europe and even parts of Asia.

Will we default? I seriously doubt it.

Most of our public debt is held by foreign countries and investors. The largest domestic holder group is the banks and corporations, though individuals are one percentage point behind them.

IF we were to default, those foreign investors would be paid first, and that money would come from SS holdings.

Very true, and its something that many people fail to recognize, which is that each President enters office under different circumstances than his predecessor, and even has to deal with that past Presidents baggage.

When I mentioned Clinton and our budget, it wasn't to boast on his behalf, it was to point out what we can accomplish when we aren't busy being the World Police.

I don't disagree with Reagans push for security, we needed it. There were real transcontinental threats to our nation. Now...not so much. Nobody can touch us without provoking hell-on-earth retaliation, and many of our allies can handle their local scuffles. We should stay then hell out their business and focus on our own. We spend just as much or more on 'national defence' as we do aiding our own citizens. Its time to rethink that.

I still have yet to see good justification for our ongoing post-9/11 actions. It has cost more in lives and money and damage to our economy than a handful of terrorists could have ever done.

one point to the post 9/11

Is it was an escalating problem. that has been deescalated to a degree. arguable i know.

the way it was handled makes enemy nations make more careful decisions and makes them watch their own closer as well. again arguable i know.

War Sucks for both sides except the profiteers.
