Been out of the electric RC hobby for years till my son and I bought a pair of Exceed Max Stone 10's. I did a fair amount of work to one and actually managed to get a good working little crawler.

After surfing the forum for a while I decided to build an AX-10 based machine totally from scratch. I was debating an rtr AX-10 kit but figured I would be replacing alot of the stock parts eventually anyway.

I have a decent Towerpro MG995 high torque servo ( will run it till it craps out then replace) and a FlySky GT3B with an extra reciever that I bought to use on my HPI Nitro Bullet that will fit the bill pretty good for the crawler.

There are several other parts that will need to be swapped out for the drive line but I figure this will give me a good working roller to improve on.

Below is a list of the parts I ordered to assemble the rig.

Big question here is how badly did I mess up with the parts combinations?

Any input would be greatly apreciated.

Axial SCX10 AX10 Transmission Set (plan to assemble in the mirrored configuration.)
2 X Scorpion AX10 Rock Crawler Locked Axle Set AX30488
Axial Heavy Duty Diff Locker AX30500 For AX10
Hot Racing's Axial AX10 Scorpion SCX10 aluminum rollcage chassis SCP14RR01
Hot Racing's Axial AX10 Scorpion SCX10 aluminum center skid plate SCP13301
2 X Hot Racing's Axial AX10 Scorpion SCX10 aluminum suspension link mount SCP55M01
2 X Hot Racing's Axial AX10 Scorpion SCX10 120mm aluminum reservoir shocks TD120RR01
Hot Racing's Aluminum Universal Center Drive Shaft SCP37H05, AX10
2 X ST Racing Concepts AX10 Scorpion, Aluminum 4 Link Front or Rear Plate
Axial Hardware Upgrade Kit AXA1411 AX10 Scorpion
Axial Aluminum 6061 Servo Horn 25T AX30836, AX10, Wraith
AXIAL AX10 Scorpion, Aluminum Rear Steering Links Red
Axial RTR Steering Upgrade Kit, AX10 and SCX10 AX30426
Aluminum Pivot Balls Green (20) SCP160B05, Axial AX10
Axial AX10 Scorpion Threaded Aluminum Pipe 6 x 101-A30 by 3Racing AX10-13/GR (bent lower links)
Axial AX10 Set Screw M3x16mm Black Oxide AXA186
2 X Axial Post 7x 70mm: Gray (2pc): SCX10 AXIA1431(upper links)
4 Losi Comp Crawler 2.2 Beadlock Wheels & Tires Rock Claw Night LCC LNC (got a good deal, pulled from a kit never used)
Tekin Racing R1 Brushed/Brushless ESC (got a good deal installed but never used, figured it would give me the option to go brushless without further costs)
10 pair T Plug Connectors Deans Style Male and Female Connectors
14 Gauge Silicone Wire 10 feet
Axial AX10 Stainless Steel Screw Set 200+ Pcs RCZAXI001

I'd be weary of running brushless on a stock transmission.
And I dont know much about the Hot Racing stuff, the main thing I'd question is the driveshafts.

Other than that it looks like your in for some fun.

Not planning to go brushless any time soon and from what I have read there is mixed review and the general consensis is brushed over brushless anyway.

The drive shafts could be an issue I hope they are beefy enough, I ordered them with a bunch of other stuff. Selection was limited and I was trying to avoid shipping costs as much as possible so I went with what they had. Living where I do I may as well live at the north pole, there is absolutly nothing anywhere near me to buy parts. Its Ebay all the way lol.

I don't see the chasis used very much.

I figured it had alot of mounting positions and would make for good tunability.

Was I correct?

Yea, seems to be alot of options.
Most holes are probably not usable and more for weight reduction.

IMO its a cool looking chassis. should work out pretty good.

The brushless to brushed tihng, hell I'd go brushless if my tranny could hold it, but for actual crawling, I think its a little overkill. But its always nice to have the extra power when you need/want it.

For the time being I think I will stick with a brushed system untill I can get the drive train beefed up substantially. I will have a Venom 1336 Fireball Rock Crawler 540 Motor 55T in it running off either 6 cell NiMH packs or 2S 1550 mah 30c LiPo packs. I hope the LiPo will keep up with the motor draw never used LiPo packs before.

I really like that chassis. Wich links would you use with it?

Honestly I have absolutly no idea LOL. First crack at crawlers.

I went with the 3racing 30 degree bent links for front and back. Being a direct replacement for the stock links I figured I would be safe. They were relatively cheap so if it turns out they are not going to work I won't be out a ton of cash. The upper links I have no idea. I am going with the 4 link servo plates and figured the 70mm tubes would be long ehough given the ammount of mounting positions on the chasis.

The main reason I went with this chasis was the aparent wide array of mounting options. I am gambling that with the links and such I can modify the mount points to make things fit and work right together.

In my old days of RC I could tweak the hell out of an RC10 LOL. mine was a total weight of 12.5 oz with motor and 6 cell nicad pack LOL. Lots of carbon fiber and titanium.

I did manage to get an Exceed Maxstone 10 to lose all of its tt and crawl really well for what it is stock tires and all.

These crawlers are a whole different side of the spectrum it will be a learn and get taken to school alot I imagine. I really like the engineering aspect of the crawlers.

This forum is a ton of help though and I apreciate the efforts of those that contribute.

I am looking for a hex wideidening set on ebay. I see there is a Hot Racing set but by looks of it they don't have the usual tube nuts on other widening kits.
Does anyone know how you are to bolt the wheel on in this instance ?
