Newb Honcho Kit Question...

Sorry for the newb question, but I was wondering if the Axial Honcho kit comes with a pinion and a spur gear? If not what is a good combination and a good place to order?

Thanks,
Dusty

87/14 is a good start! Check out the Integy 35T lathe motor for $23.

The strong motor magnet combined with that short gearing means you don't need an esc with a drag brake.

The stock 27T will can also hold hills well with 14/87 gearing as long as you use an ESC with programmable drag brake to compensate for the wimpy motor magnets.

So basically you can upgrade one or the other (but preferrably both).

What esc are you getting?

I'm going to be running an old Tazer ESC I have at first, but I will eventually upgrade to either a Texkin FXR or a CC Sidewinder.

Alright guys, I'm bumping this back up for another question. I have my Honcho assembled minus the body and I am trying to wire up my 3racing winch. I was wondering if the Y-Connector below would allow me to connect my winch and my ESC to my battery?

Yes, that will work if you are running a 6 Cell (7.2V) NiMH or 2 Cell (7.4V) Lipo. I just put a servo plug on the battery hookup wires from the 3Racing Control board and plugged it into my BAT port on the Receiver.

I know I have a 6 Cell battery but I'm not exactly sure what it is, just a cheap one. How did you go about putting a servo plug on the battery wires for the winch?

you would need an adapter in parallel not series. that connector you have there will not work. That connector is to turn 2 2-cell lipos or something like that into a 4cell lipo.

Well I need an adapter to hook 2 things up to 1 battery, how would I wire that?

i would wire it in parallel. there is a connector that is sold that allows you to wire up a battery in parallel. instead of putting another battery on that side you would just hook up your winch controller to it.

Any idea where to get that connector? Or a diagram so I could solder my own?

Ok, I'm leaning more towards this now. Do I just connect the red to red and black to black and leave the white disconnected?
