New To forum and Crawlers

Well like the title says, I am new to this forum and new to Crawlers.

I just purchased my first crawler, well its for my son but im sure I will be driving it also. I ordered him a Exceed 1/16th. Couldnt pass up the price and its his first RC. He loves my RC18 but its alittle too fast for him so i figured a crawler would be a good place to start out.

Just wanted to introduce myself and say I look forward to learning about Crawling.

Sky is the limit as far as choices go. There are so many different directions you can go. I dont comp, but I like the performance of a comp crawler. There is a ton of stuff out nowdays for scale. Some of the scale stuff is truly amazing in how they resemble their 1:1 counterparts. As far as brand goes, I would recommend Axial, as they have several different models and the aftermarket part availability is endless. Probably the best thing you could do is figure out what you intend on doing with your new machine and start studying the forums for that model.

Well I have done some searching and found a nice looking axial ax scorpion with Novak rooster Esc and motor. Good setup? Has upgraded servo and all aluminum upgrades.

Well I am going to pick up the Axial AX10 Scorpion today. going to give this crawler stuff a shot!

yes the ax10 is good rig but also the venom creeper is way cheaper and just as capable as the ax10 as i own both and the creeper definetly breaks less than the ax10 but there are many upgrades for the ax10

The reason I am getting the ax10 is because I am trading one of my other RC's for it. It has a 55t rooster motor and lots of aluminum upgrades.

I will probably wan to upgrade the shocks to threaded body shocks.

I am curious to what lipos will work with this crawler. I have some bigger lipos from my other RC's.

ok well that trade didnt work out, so i am still looking.

wanting to trade my slash 4x4 vxl with proline powerstrokes for a crawler. hopefully i can trade it and get a decent crawler.

It's the volts input the ESC cares about, NOT the chemistry the battery is.
Reminder, the volts listed are usually "nominal" volts, not "peak at full charge" thus you can compare LiPO to NiCD/NiMH.

Is brushless a good thing in crawling like it is in other forms of RC? i know crawling is not about going fast, but are there any advantages about going brushless in crawlers? or are the brushed motors just fine?

I run both set ups. Brushless in my scale scx10. And brushed in both of my comp rigs. having brushed helps with the drag brake Aspect of the Motor ( you don't want that bad boy to roll back on you). As far as the brushless I run the set up For efficiency on trails and battery life. Drag brake is ok but not as important in a scaler.

I'm running a Novak goat crawler s3 and a sensor type Novak Ballistic 21. Works for me but others hate it ..

I bought a ax10 because it had the Novak Goat and the 21.5 brush-less in it,and was told it wasn't a great set up,
But you like yours.
I was going to give it to my grandson,perhaps I should hang on to it until I decide to get the scx 10 or the path finder 2.
Any opinions on which one would be better.

It's not quite that simple. If you're going to run lipo you have to make sure the ESC has low voltage cutoff (LVC) or use an external low voltage alarm (only a few $). Otherwise you can permanently damage the battery if you over discharge it. Maybe that was understood but if not important to point out.

I have a ax10 with Novak Goat 3s and 18.5t brush-less, I love it, the best of both worlds. I have a dragbreak set to about 7% I think. crawls up anything, and still has a good top speed. My 6 year old girl loves it too. our SC trucks have seen very little use, since buying a crawler.
