New radio suggestions

So, I finally got to do some rock crawling with the new gatekeeper, and it was a blast!
The only real problem I had was the radio that came with the car.
Seems something is glitchy with the steering. Occasionally, the wheels will randomly flick to full passenger, then go back straight.
Tapping on the radio seems to make this happen.

So I want to upgrade. Maybe to a 4 channel. I’d prefer a left handed or convertible for left handed radio, but right handed isn’t a deal breaker. (P.S. Why are left handed radio so rare?!?!)

Are there any that won’t break the bank that allow for custom or at least adjustable steering/throttle curves?

I found this on Amazon, but with few reviews, it’s hard to get an idea of its quality

Only 2 brands on amazon that are tried and true.

Flysky

Radiolink

Most popular being flysky gt5.

First I would contact Associated and get the stock radio replaced if it is faulty. You paid for it, it should work. While it isn't anthing fancy, it's really all a guy needs to run a basic surface RC.

I run Spektrum radios. I really like my now discontinued DX4's of which I have a couple. I also have a DX5 Rugged. It's a nice radio but plows through the AA's. I find that annoying. I prefer my older DX4 as a result.

A lot of guys swear by the FLYSKY GT5. Personally I would go this route if I were you. Receivers are cheap and seems to have all of the functions you would need. If money is no barrier perhaps a DX5 Pro, I imagine it is pretty tricked-out

to convert to Lefty, Radiolinks new RX8, its a bit of a pricey radio at 300.00 (can find it for less on Ali Express (around 243 is the best price so far). But its a Ferarri of radios for 300.
If you can do without swapping the Radiolink RC6GS is only 83 on Amazon, or the Rc4GS are like 65.

The Noble from Flyskey is about 240ish and is also swappable to lefty. but for the radio, I'd go for the RX8.

impo, avoid spectrum, unless you want them.
I have a stock Spectrum out of a bomber and one from a Capra I'm going to list up for sale soon. Meh Spectajunk.

You make a compelling argument for your sale item [emoji23][emoji1787][emoji23]
Thanks for the advice!
Looks like everyone is pretty much on the same page here.
Was hoping to try that wfly, but not if it’s going to suck.

So, looking at the FlySky FA-GT5, which seems to be a safe bet, I see the new FS-G7P 7 channel for the exact same price.
I don’t NEED 7 channels, but how do I justify the older gt5 at the same price.
I saw a few reviews where they hated the physical wheel, but now that’s been upgraded to a much better unit.
Any reason to NOT get the FS-G7P?

I chose a GT5 over the G7P. I don't need the extra features the G7 offers. I like the simplicity and ease of use of the GT5 but more importantly, I like the way it felt and a better fit for my medium sized hand. If know of anyone that has one or both, try it out for fit. I felt the G7 felt cheap and fragile. Not that it is but just felt that way to me.

Was the G7P larger?
XXL hands here.

I think most radios have a standered size from my exsperiance the only real differance is in the placement of the wheel on the radio

The old am futaba magnumb jr and sport are basicly the same as my radiolink and my flyskys my spectrums the tactics and the dumbo as far as size and trigger placement go

The turbo racing radios are alot smaller and fly sky makes some tiny radios too but for the most part there pretty standerd

That dosent mean there the same size over all though the radio link radio is bulky and so are the spectrum radios i hate the way the specrtum radios feel in the hand but thats my opinion

The flysky gt5 is my favorite radio right now but i feel the radio link is a better quality radio but the gt5 just feels good the user interface is easy to use and there lipo ready

At the end of they day they all work good the dumbo can be finnicky though it dosent like some escs

Ive herd of some servo isses with spectrum radios they dont seem to play nice with some direct power servos

The Flysky G7P is an objectively awful radio. The ergonomics are so bad, it's as if it was designed in part or in whole by that AI that can't draw hands. I can't even bring myself to give it away.
I liked the GT5 for a good while, and it's still my choice for a basher radio (as I have five of them) but the Radiolink RC4GS beats it soundly in literally every imaginable category.

OP, the bottom line is that if you want a radio that converts to left hand use, you're going to have to pay for it. Or you could take a flyer on "non handed" and try a Hot RC DS-4A, which is a one-handed radio that is wayyyy better than it has any right to be. Also super cheap. Does it do fancy stuff? Nope. Does it have EPA? Yep. Cruise control? Yeah, that too. Under 30 bucks on Amazon? You know it.

If you can’t give it away, I’ll pay shipping![emoji23][emoji1787][emoji23] (seriously, [emoji6])
Thanks for the reply!
I saw several reviews complaining mostly about the steering wheel, but was hoping with the improved steering wheel it might be a bit better.

I guess it’s a GT5 then.

Good call. Can't go wrong with it. "thumbsup"

Hard to go wrong with a GT5. I use this radio in 10 of my rigs. The lipo for it that’s sold on Amazon is a pos. I tried a few of them. One read less than 1 volt out of the package. None of them lasted even unplugging them when not using. All adjustments are straightforward with the radio.

I have a flysky gt5 and a radiolink rc4gs.

Gt5 is nicer looking and feeling for me, better ergonimics for my hands.
The interface is pretty simple, easy to use.

Radiolink is much bulkier, looks like it was designed in 1985. But it has way more tune-ability, throttle/steering curves etc. harder to drive with one hand for me.

I think i like the gt5 better for my uses, but i can see the benefit of the features on the radiolink for more racing/competition use. But then, a person would likely be into a higher end radio anyways.

I went ahead and got the GT5
I really wanted the new 7, but in the end, the smaller size of the GT5 fits my cargo box better.
