Need help with a stripped screw.

Heard some grinding coming from the trans on my capra. Thought I'd take it apart to investigate and stripped the screw. Anyone have any suggestions that won't hurt my motor?

It takes time for it to set up, but I have used JB weld to attach a cheap allen/hex wrench to the screw head.
It does not always work, but has a couple times for me.

Good suggestion ^^^

I've also slotted stripped screw-heads with a thin Dremel cut-off wheel. I even keep some old worn down ( smaller) wheels for just such an occasion. Slot it as best you can then go in with a wide enough flat-head screwdriver to extract it.

Also you can sometimes take an allen key ( not a good-quality driver... don't want to ruin those lol) that is one size bigger and 'gently' tap it in there with a hammer to see if it will catch enough to slowly turn it out. If that doesn't work, you can even sometimes take that larger size key and shave it a hair on all sides to get it a bit smaller... then try again to tap it in there to see if it engages enough to rotate the screw outta there.

Did you use loctite? If so you may want to apply some heat with a soldering iron before attempting removal.

You could sacrifice a torx bit thats a bit oversized for this fastener, hammer it in and give it a try and hope it doesnt also strip.

You could try to grind a slot in it and use a flat head screw driver to remove it. this might be my last resort

BTW I stripped a fair number of screws before I got a nice set of hex drivers. Basic/cheap tools often have a loose fit and often lead to stipping heads. Vanquish and MIP make great percision tools.

too true, had to heat too many over loctited screws to remember

Bit of "tin foil" and an old Allen wrench. I have also used the reverse "ez-out" chamfering tool, and it grabs most hardware.
