I've been playing around with a Capra kit build for a little bit, here's what I've done and I'm pretty happy with it.
Added Hot Racing brass portal covers up front. This is the only brass on it. I did the typical mods to get more steering angle. Running the front lower link ends a couple turns out to get more caster.
Shocks internally limited to 92mm eye to eye length. Added upper and lower springs perches to run mini t springs, using soft in front and medium in the rear. 35wt shock oil all around. If I keep running these shocks I'll go a bit thicker on the oil.
I added a Spare Time Hobbies flat skid (I think its his version 2?). It's a pretty nice setup in my opinion. My ride height is much lower than stock so this skid gets the belly up to help the break over noticeably.
Wheels are cheap 2.2 narrow beadlocks. I'm using Proline dual stage foams for 1.9's and Proline 1.9 Krawlers in Predator compound. I'm kind of just burning these tires up on the Capra as I'm not that big a fan of the Predator compound, but they work well enough. I tried them with CI foams on soft/medium outers and I'll just say I was not a fan of that setup.
Used an old Hitec steering servo. The car is fairly light so even though it's not a torque monster it works. Hobbywing wp1080 ESC with a Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster Expert 16t seems to work well with an 11t pinion. Using and AGFrc mini servo for dig. I use 3s 1500mah batteries in it.
So with relatively minor mods this thing is super cable and I'm happy with how it handles. Front/rear weight split is about where I want it at 57/43 and with the sorta wide track width and lower ride height it can sidehill pretty well. It can climb a 60 degree incline without flipping over. Dig is fun, I almost want to build a comp truck with it. Perhaps the STH rails are in this car's future...or maybe a more custom setup with angled skid. For now though, as it sits this is a really fun and capable rig.
LOL, just realized there's cat hair stuck to the tires in these pics from running on my test course in the basement...oh well.
