Motor very hot - Tekin gen1 sensored

In my Bomber I got a 17 tooth pinion and 56 spur. Esc is a mamba max pro, and motor is tekin gen 1 redline 13.5 turn sensored. After 10min or so of running, the motor is hot so that I can't even have my finger on it for a second. Is this OK to run the motor with this type of heat? The Bomber is probably reaching 20-25mph. I like the speed.
 
I ran a Gen 1 13.5 in my Wraith on 3s geared at 13/56 and didn't have heat issues. Given they are similar in size and weight I'd say your geared way too high.

You should be able to hold a finger anywhere on the motor for a count of 3. If it burns you immediately, its way too hot.

So in order to go faster do I need a lower turn motor like a 10 turn or 8 turn? I like the sensored motor I have because you have good control at low speeds. Maybe a tekin 8.5 turn redline?

that is geared way too high! you want speed, then gear down and volt up! what battery are you currently running?
 
So 64/12 gearing maybe (which was stock) and what kind of motor that is sensored and can have my bomber go 30-40 mph? I don't know why you would gear down. I thought to go faster you gear up like 56/13 which I have now.

you gear down to save the motor and then volt up to make it turn faster, thereby going faster...if you run 2s on 64/12 and then run 3s on the same gear set, the 3s will be going much faster....that being said...if you want 30-40mph out of your bomber, then you will have to get a better brushless sensored motor..like the proHD3500 or similar motor. Holmes Hobbies has a few brushless motors that would do the job...
 
Bombers are awesome for what they are - but trying to reach close to 40mph you're going to hate it. They don't handle well at those speeds - weren't designed for it.

If you are insisting on going for some more speed you'll need a lot of suspension changes - lower it, springs & shock oils, adjustable sway bar(s) - and beef up the drivetrain - hardened steel gears and shafts.

Try a 2 speed transmission to get that last bit of top-end.

Find the gearing / speed calculator to get a better idea of just how fast you are really maxing out at now - that will give you more of an idea of how hard it is to reach those speeds.

I'd keep those expectations more realistic and get a used Traxxas for the high-speed stuff - You'll still enjoy the Bomber more... try some more intense terrain, harder climbs, etc.

The tekin prohd3500 looks nice but expensive.

what you want to do wont be cheap if you expect it to survive more than a couple runs...castle you linked to is not sensored, wont crawl as well as a sensored...plus its not meant for a heavy rig like the bomber...I have that motor in my rustler and its fine, even in my slash 4x4...but not a bomber..

Yah your right. I used an online calculator and was getting 18.24mph with the 64/12 gearing. And with the 56/13 I have in it now, I am getting 24.85mph. I also stuck a GPS on the car and got 26.24mph. 40mph is too fast like you said. But 25 to 30 is what I'm looking for. I got 10wt oil and proline shocks, and a sway bar. It handles pretty good at 26mph for me and I can go slow with the sensored motor for some climbing but the problem is my motor can't handle this speed.

I was looking at these. A little cheaper. I don't know if they would work.
Hobbywing xerun 4274 2200kv 550 size
Hobbywing xerun 3656 3400kv, 4000kv, or 4700kv

My bomber weighs 8+ lbs with the 3s battery. Would the hobbywing 4274 give me speeds close to 30? It is a 550 size for heavier cars but the kV is only 2200. Then they have the 3656, which is only a 540 size but comes with 3 higher kV ratings. Higher kV 540 size motor or 550 size low kv for 25-30mph? Ive been reading some Info online and am still learning.
 
No wonder it gets hot, unless I've entered something wrong the calculator I use says it's trying to run more than 45mph!!!!
Poor 2 pole obviously doesn't have the torque to get it there & is nearly burning itself up trying.

Well that would explain something any way lol
I looked up the trans ratio but obviously didn't take into account the reduction in the transfer .
I wasn't quite believing that speed but didn't get the chance look up why.
It took me a couple of goes at the calc when I first entered the 17t pinion he says in the first post, then realised it changes to a 13t later.

A 550 3500kv on 3s with a 15t pinion will still only just tip 30mph, at least that should have the grunt to turn it.
