Motor upgrade

I bought my wife an Axial RR10 Bomber (RTR grey) for her birthday (her choice). She is using 3s batteries and wants to retain crawling ability. I installed axial metal steering links and hot racing metal anti-sway bars.

She would like some more speed for backyard bashing.

I don’t want to replace the esc, I don’t want the two speed upgrade; I would like a simple plug and play motor swap for some more speed for backyard fun. A brushless is fine, but a $100 ish solution is preferred over a $200+ one.

I noticed axial lists a 3150kv brushless ax31047 motor upgrade for $130; any thoughts or experience with this motor and install?

Thank you

Not happening for $100. Maybe try a HobbyWing 1080 ESC and stay brushed on 3s. Get one of the long can 550 Traxxas motors or their boat 775 motors.

So, now that you mention it I happen to have a spare Traxxas Titan 550 from a trx4, would that work? Would it be an upgrade?

Upgrade over the stock motor? Yes. What turn is it? Whether or not the ESC can handle it on 3s is a different story.

Castle Copper Head should be the ticket. I have not been able to kill my mambaX. Just keep the volts one cell under the rated limit on the ESC. The sidewinder system did not like 3S and the tires being full of water.

I would get this over the previous combo https://www.amainhobbies.com/castle...1412-3200kv-cse010-0166-09/p-qqqcqawapmzwqctz
The longer can will have more torque for crawling and allow higher gearing for more speed
Buying the right thing once is cheaper than the wrong thing many times

I agree with buying the right thing once. I decided to just skip to “end state” sensored brushless and skip the intermediate upgrade stage. I ended up going with the Hobbywing AXE 550 3300kv combo, and I am happy with it as is my wife. It has plenty of zoom, and lots of control for crawling. The deciding factor, over Mamba X etc, was I already have the AXE 550 combo in my TRX6 and so I am familiar with the install and operation.
