More details to follow. Basics:

Mamba X with castle 3800 kv (May go portals but it’s too fast with a 15T pinion)

Good old cheap Chinese 25kg servo.

Tamiya orange painted on the interior with exterior painted with flat.

Same flat treatment for the back half

Hand painted driver with the head of Nathan Drake, the UnCharted character.

Lockedup RC wheels with .225 SLW hubs (minor rubbing).

Ottsix KLRs, full size 1.9.

Lots of leds from a Chinese led set.

More scale goodies to come and true action shots. It did look good in the dining room though.

Drove it immediately after this and it rolled once, ripping off the snorkel. Horizon was kind enough to send me a replacement for free! Nice customer service!! So when you build these you need to put some backing on the interior of cab since the tiny screws will pull out.

It’s supposed to rain this weekend so I’ll have some action shots soon.

The truck looks great and the flat paint really makes a difference. Those fuel tanks look 1000X better than any of the stock Axial pictures. "thumbsup"

I really need to get one of these bodies.

MOG looks great! Nice color choice with the flat finish.

A few around the backyard. I had to shim the rear diff because it was skipping and the mpg instructions wanted a short rear female driveshaft. A lot of the center piece was hanging out to I modified to use the longer female rear piece and then cut off a few millimeters to give it greater coverage and strength.

Also the snorkel got ripped of after my first run. Horizon was kind enough to send another one to me. NOTE TO ALL I used a flexible piece of plastic and drilled holes in it so that the snorkel is secured through force applied throughout the A pillar instead of 2 small screws. Much stronger set up and it will save your body from damage.

A few shots from a run through some dirt. This weekend I hope to take to some property and run through some mud. I’ve got an SR5 that has proline everything I want to photograph and send into Proline to see if they will give me props.

More to come, but I tested the mog against an SCX10 ii with a 12 inch wheelbase (the SR5), a standard length trx4 d110, and my modified TRX4 sport with a shortened wheelbase to fit the proline bronco body.

Order of weight (heavy to light):

D110
SR5
Mog
Bronco.

Performance in mud:

D110
Bronco
Mog
SR5

Climbing performance:

Mog
D110 (lots of weight on the front)
SR5
Bronco

Top speed:

D110
Mog
Bronco
SR5

(All have castle 3800 except the D110 which has the 2850). Gearing changes made a lot of the difference.

Realism:

SR5
Mog
D110
Bronco

Shocks are tuned just right in the SR5 and they are compliant over everything. The TRAXXAS vehicles have too much dampening so they tend to bounce, especially the light bronco.

A friend of mine got one of these Unimogs. Just one question as I see you did the same. The top of the cab is not attached to the cage. Why is that? Cause is kind of flimsy

You can put a screw through it if you want to tighten the cage to the top of the body/cab. I didn’t do it because my rig is really fast and I don’t want to tear a hole in the body. Putting portals on soon!! Need reverse cut ar44 diff gears. They are on the way!!

Wich diff gears are you getting?

Deadlock RC. They sell portals and the reverse cut gears. I also bought some legal Boom Racing axle housings. DixielandRC on YouTube seemed to do the same thing not sure if he used the reverse cut gears though. I will because 3800kv brushless. Only problem with the portals is that there is no reduction. The Gen8 axles don’t work without massive modification so I’ll have to hold onto them for another project...

Parts! Portals!

One hiccup - I didn’t realize the spools from boom racing were specific to the boom racing diff gears. So I had to buy some vanquish spools last night. Should be good to go this weekend.

Love that the RC4wd shocks are packaged inconsistently. How does something like that happen? Come on!!

Shocks, reverse cut diff gears, boom racking axle housings, bearing and screw set, Samix brass shock mounts and hexes, portal axles x4.

Portals built. Hope to throw them on tomorrow. The boomracing axle housings aren’t that heavy, nor are the Deadlock portals. These are super smooth.

Note I had trouble with the reverse cut Deadlock gears. They didn’t line up properly and as a result I couldn’t use them. So I shimmed the boom racing gears as tightly as possible and will see how it works.

The deadlock gears in the portals look super meaty and were well greased. Thumbs up!
