Mall Crawl RC Demo?!

I have wondered why more local clubs don't setup public RC crawling demos at local malls during the Christmas season. Locally, we have a spring Home and Garden show at our expo center that usually includes two or three landscapers. I have been thinking of approaching one or more to see if they would design a hardscape display that could be crawled on. This would add interest in the landscapers booth and provide public exposure for the local RC club. I ran across a series of youtube videos where a club setup a demo in a mall. Judging from the spectators I think it would be great exposure for RC crawling in general.

Maybe, if by next Xmas I've been made a direct hire rather than a contractor at my new job - I'll see if I can pull somethin' off locally...

I'm in IT support for an extremely large national hardware store chain...

Is their a sign that says "no kid you can`t drive my toy car"?:lmao:

Local clubs doing this would be cool but it would make a bit more sense for a hobby shop to be running it, after they play with them they might ask where to buy them. I remember being young and seeing all kinds of odd little fliers, big foam gliders doing loops, odd little blimps floating around, little helicopters and other random stuff at the mall. It certainly caught my attention when I was young.

I was thinking of getting materials donated by the hardware chain, and then having a few LHS employees on hand plus a local crawler club, with banners from all three...

I’ve considered approaching my LHS but crawlers aren’t their mainstay. He only started carrying Axial after the TRX came out. He’s had some minis and micros over the years, though. I’d like to see him pick up business just so that he’d have something useful in house when I need it. LOL.

Honestly. I think it’d be some cool isht to stroll by a crawly spot in the mall. I’d come back the next day with mine. Just to help the cause and stuff. If anyone has some hardcore scalers or highly modified you could display them with a run time schedule to draw a bigger crowd.

Y’all got a block and brick distributor I’m sure. Paver bricks, granite chunks, river rocks, border rocks and such as that? You could make it ‘modular’ and change it up every now and then. Austin oughta have loads of local rocks, too.

Locally we have a spring home and garden expo at our local expo center. In this show there are usually several landscapers that set up hardscape displays showing off what they can do. I am considering approaching them with a proposal to see if they would be interested in designing a hardscape display which could be crawled on. Then get some local crawlers to climb all over the display. This would add interest to the landscape display and also provide exposure to the RC crawlers.

We all know this is very true. Myself I'm very cautious about who drives my trucks.

I think setting up somewhere like a mall or events would be great exposure. It would add attention to the hobby for sure. At the same time it would be hard I think to find space like a mall and run trucks. Having clubs or anyone willing to give time to a cause like this could be hard, especially at this time of year. With some good planning and people that are willing it could be a good thing.

Just a idea to throw out maybe having a lhs have some trucks to sell ar the event would be a good thing, maybe, lol.

Would like to hear about updates with what happens, oh yeah don't forget to add some pictures too.

My RC "club" did it at a local Mall in conjunction with a 1:1 car club for a couple of years.

I remember way back in the day, when i was a teenager, we had a carpet race series for our buggies during the Winter months. A couple of the races were at local malls. Like others said, the idea was to gain some excitement for the hobby and bring new folks in. Several of the LHS’s were involved, as well as some mfg Reps. We would actually get some decent crowds watching and asking questions. Could still be a good, grassroots way to demonstrate RC crawling.
