Large Scale Crawler

Since I already have a couple of 1/24 Axial's and a 1/10 scale Capra, I was looking for something a little different. Unfortunately Axial does not make a 1/6 scale Capra, I have been looking for a large scale crawler. I am really interested in the Exceed Madstone 1/5 scale crawler. I am interested in how the motor on axle setup works. Anyone have one of these or can make any recommendations on something else I might look at. I don't care anything about going fast or building something that looks scale.

Sorry I can't make a recommendation on what to get but I can 100% recommend to NOT get anything made by Exceed... complete garbage with no customer service and pretty much no support. Replacement factory parts rarely come back in stock and upgrade parts just don't exist through any aftermarket manufacturers... only from Exceed. And regarding actual "upgrade parts", they actually aren't... They're just factory aluminum [poorly] anodized parts that replace the plastic parts. And these very few existing parts are simply bolt on parts anyway... only for aesthetics. Radio features and electronics quality are absolute crap, tires and shocks are a joke, and the overall capability, performance, and adjustability are all bottom of the barrel. 100% waste of money imo... not just particular Exceed models, but the company itself.

i had a maxstone 5 i guess i still do lol they did make upgrade parts for them along time ago but even then it was a when in stock type of thing
but even those upgrades dident hold up
the redcat clawback is also the same rig with a truck body on it

the problem with large scale crawlers is the cost a 5th scale axle will cost you around $400-$500 and thats the low end so your looking at one hell of a pricy rig

I’ve have Exceeds’ large scale 6X6 crawler and their large scale 8X8 crawler, bought both new about 10 years ago. Only thing I’ve changed out are the servos, which like almost every RTR needs to be replaced with stronger units. Haven’t broken a single part, so I’d say anyone who calls them complete garbage has never owned one or just likes to act like an expert. I’m no expert but I own 51 RCs, and started building cars with the release of Tamiya Frog in 1983. I’ve broken Traxxas, Losi, Axial, and probably close to half of my stable has suffered broken parts, but not either of the Exceeds. 17mm hubs, twin vertical aluminum plate frames and links, a lot of todays stuff is not built this well. Just my humble opinion. RC LIFE IS GOOD.

Your opinion, while valid regarding your experience is definitely not humble.

Exceed seemed like more toy quality than hobby-grade to me and I still believe that to be true. And, yeah... every brand has it's shortcomings here and there. Who knows how hard you are on your 6x6 crawler? Or how often you run it? Or how lucky you just happened to get?

For others to try to steer someone away from a certain brand name or model type for reasons that in THEIR experience was far different from yours, doesn't at all mean that they are acting like an expert or have never owned one. People want others to have accurate information regarding their personal experiences... so what?

The quality and aftermarket support & parts upgrades/ availability just wasn't there when I had one as my first crawler. Doesn't mean that the Exceed name is plagued with issues or that there aren't people that have had their fair share of fun with em. But in my particular post above, I was offering up an opinion to potentially save someone from wasting their money buying something that wasn't very capable, didn't have hardly any upgrade options, and had very few replacement parts in stock as well as very few dealers... at least here in the US.

Nice first post lol.

Your panties will unbunch sooner or later.

i have had 2 exceeds 1 1/16 maxstone crawler and like i sead earlyer 1 1/5 scale max stone crawler the maxstone 5 is pure garbage with almost no upgrade parts available i spent more than the rig costs new on making my own upgrades only to strip the brand new metal gears on the first run
the maxstone 16 has been damb good sure i striped the plastic lockers and almost immediately broke the steering knuckles but used losi and redcat parts to fix it and a few other parts upgrades including a tiny 2200kv outrunner and its pretty well bulletproof now except for the dang plastic servo horn lol and its pretty capable its been to almost every proline by the fire and a 1500mah battery lasts almost 4 hours and thats with a yota hard body on it ive had so much fun with it in the almost 10 years ive owned it
there basicly the same rigs as the old redcats everest 16/everest 10
and even the gen7 to a degree
the maxstone 16/everest16 seem to hold up better than the rest being losi cloned and not axial cloned rigs

what i found is basicly stock motor and 2s battery they hold up good but 3s and or upgraded motor they break
Your panties will unbunch sooner or later.
lame 👎
