I am just getting into RC crawlers. Bought SCX10 TR Honcho should be here Monday.:ror:
Plans for right now are to run traxxas XL5 waterproof ESC and run 55 turn motor don't plan on putting too much in to this as I am waiting for Axial new 2.2 to come out.

I would like to be able to get good run time out of batteries.
I have couple questions

1. What's better Lipo or Nimh?
2. When looking at LIPO What is the 30c and 40c?
3. What is MAH, Does more MAH mean longer run time?
4. Off topic but, Should I run 55 turn or stock 27 turn

Any suggestions on what batteries to get? I was thinking about...

Any help would be appreciated."thumbsup"

I don't know if I will be able to answer all your questions but here are my thoughts.

1. In most applications Lipo will be better. They are lighter and provide consistent voltage unlike Nimh batteries which start to lose voltage as soon as you hit the trigger. Plus Lipo's and chargers are cheap now so there is really no use for Nimh and Nicd batteries unless you already have some.

2. The C rating is the discharge rating, basically how much current is safe to draw from your battery. Higher is usually better but these are often misrepresented for your purpose 30C should be fine unless there is a negligible price difference then go for the 40C.

3. Yes, a higher Mah battery will give you longer run times since Mah is the capacity of the battery a basic analogy is to think of the Mah as a gas tank.

4. As far as your motor, it's all a matter of personal preference. the 27T will give you more wheel speed since you have a Honcho I think a 27T would be better. I have 55T in my AX10 and I think it goes a little too slow.

If you are in the market for a charger be sure to look at the Thunder AC6 from hobbypartz. Its a solid charger that has a built in power supply and can charge anything you can throw at it.

I see you are also in Vancouver, feel free to hit me up if you have any questions.

I'm running a honcho, and a Trail Finder. I've ran 27t on 7.4 v and 11.1. The 27t is a FUN FUN motor. I also ran two different 55 turns a cheapy axial one and a novak hand wound. Both 55t's were fun, the novak had lots of torque but both were toooo slow IMO even on 3s 11.1 lipo. My ideal motor is a 45T on 3s lipo (11.1v). However the more I run my rigs in all trail conditions the more I'm finding speed to my advantage. I'm going to be running a Holmes Hobbies 35 T brushed soon and am interested if I'll like it more than my current 45T. It's all fun.....but like the other fella said....55 is too slow for a trail rig...."thumbsup"

You think of another good charger? Every where I look Thunder AC6 is all sold out...
Or would Electrifly Poly Charger four work? Would love one that charges more than one at a time.
