Hopefully not a stupid question, but what 1/10 crawlers (hard body preferred) do peop

Same as title really, a little bit of background, I am in the UK, so prices are higher than in the us, I am looking at trying to save for a 1/10, Family means spare cash is often hard to find, (while also checking the second hand market), I am not a fan of the Gmade style bodies, I want a land rover if possible, but wouldn’t kick a jeep body if I liked it.

now the:-

Traxxas trx4 is appealing with the defender body, but the price is in the possibly too impatient to save that long territory.

Axial scx10, scx10 2, seem popular, and I can, if impatience wins get a fake to learn the pitfalls on, or just save for the real thing. I don’t know what’s different about the two alternatives?

There are a myriad of cheaper alternatives, but I would rather buy a well made Make.. open to other suggestions, just be aware some might not be available here, and as such import duty etc would likely make them ridiculously out of a reasonable budget.

Scx24 crc. Crawler 1/24
Wltoys a212. Shortcourse 1/24
Wltoys k969. Drifty 1/28

Use the classified here or Ebay auctions to find a used "name brand" in your price range. I'd do that over fakes. Plus you could score some aftermarket parts already added for less than a new model.

Just my .02

It took some time but I found a very well priced TRX-4 Defender on Ebay in the UK, and it is now my main truck. Definitely worth keeping an eye on ebay.......

ebay is also a good source for a nice hard body. Do a search for "1 10 scale rc bodies" and see what turns up. That said, I would wait and save for the TRX4 Defender it will be worth the wait.

Look at Cross, fine detail, very complete kits, lights, transmission & motor assembled, bearings included, D rings for bumper, pretty much add radio, stir & drive.

Just be informed that not all have interiors, I did not notice that when i purchased my truck. No worry scratched one out, just saying.

If you want something scale looking on a budget, check out the Carisma SCA-1E range, their Range Rover is especially good looking. The most popular budget chassis in the UK has to be the FTX Outback Fury. The FS Crawler from Nitrotek has a good reputation and compatible with most SCX10II upgrades.

If you want something that comes with a hard body, you will be spending a lot of money on it. Easier and cheaper route is to buy the chassis then find a suitable body on eBay or Aliexpress.

My concern on the sce-1e is purely it's an unusual wheelbase compared to the market leaders, but otherwise I have been thinking similarly, keep looking at the Element Enduro, price point should mean I can get it next month, the body is lexan, but upgrading to a hard body should, in theory give me more choice. And by march the weather will be better (I hope), disability makes getting cold very uncomfortable, so I try to avoid it.. Lol.

SCA-1E? It's a similar wheelbase to the RC4WD TF2. if you get the Brat though, that comes with a 313mm wheelbase like the others that run large to scale (1.9 vs 1.5 wheels).

FYI - He's got an Enduro already now, last post was 4 months ago... "thumbsup"

Nice, I was looking at those too. 4 months isn't too long ago (I'd consider 1yr+ to be necro), found this while searching for info and saw a point I could clarify because I'm literally weighing these same options right now too.

My thoughts.

My oldest boy has a Axial SCX10, the original. I don't drive it a lot but when I have and what I have seen good choice.

My youngest has an MOA, incredible but completely different, not a fair comparison.

I have a TRX4 and it is great, once you get ride of the heavy, huge, massive, ugly (except the K5) over sized body.

I have an Enduro and it sucks, it really really sucks! HUGE diffs, control arms always in the way, suspension to bouncy, motor and trans sit too high. I can but hard foams in it and soft in my TRX4 and SCX and very soft foams in the MOA and still have a 5deg + advantage on a static sidehill over the Enduro. Drive it in a side hill ad hit even a small pump and over you go. Climbing is not as bad as I thought but still not nearly as good as any of my others. Some of this you can over come but why waste money catching up to the others when you buy a decent RTR or kit and spend your extra money making it even better as opposed to spending extra money trying to make it as good. Where the Enduro really struck out is the high sitting motor trans and battery. I know the SCX 10 sits those things up higher but not as much

I am sure I will sell the Enduro. I won't buy anything again that I already have but my advice to others based on my experience is easily to recommend the TRX4. The TRX4 has it motor and trans down in the frame rail, if you want a bigger battery it sits down in the frame rail. If you want to better performance you can set a smaller battery up front on the frame rail.

Out of the box Traxxas did a good job with the TRX4 when it comes to a lower center of gravity. Some will say their electronics suck and I agree but changing a Servo or ESC, even a motor is far easier than have to redesign the Enduro so you can lower the center of gravity.
