Yeah just nothing quite like what I am working on. The xr mod is the closest i have come to what i am building but did not find very many doing so

Why do you want XR mod, for width or steering?

I Want the xr mod for a combination of the both, steering and the width. However im going to use two long wraith driveshafts so its gonna be a wide som'b! I am combining aspects of both comp style crawler with scale looks basically. i have ar60 axles now because my rig used to be an ax10 Deadbolt but now has an scx10 frame with custom links and junk. Im thinking 1/8 sized comp crawler with a short wheelbase kind of thing. My inspiration is from the 90's jeep wranglers that make such good crawler because they are short with good axles make them wide. That is actually the body im going to start with is an hpi jeep wrangler for a savage.

Here are some pics of a axle mod I build for the ascender axles.

Front and rear axles with Codyboy steering."thumbsup"

12.5 oz of none rotating weight just about as low as you can get it.

65 degrees of steering.;-)
Ernie

And with a VP Currie axle with 12oz of non rotating weight.

Yeah those axles look awesome! im gonna go super wide tho with mine but i do like what you did there! 8) I am liking the idea of modifying stock housings to get what you want. The aluminum housings are nice and pretty but the aluminum housings do not slide on the rocks like they should, the plastic seem to do pretty good although some nice stainless steel housings would be nice :ror: too bad they would cost an arm and a leg and weigh ten tons!

If you have a lathe, you can use the same process to build at any width axles with most housings. "thumbsup"

Yes sir! I actually work for a company called Boondocker Performance and we have a full fabrication department. So i have access to a lathe and a 2 axys manual table mill/drill press. "thumbsup" I am going to use the original scx10 housing for a center mounted pumpkin over the offset one on my current ar60 housings. My 4 link mount for my scx10 housings showed up in the mail today. Just waiting on my new shocks and dual motor plate to show up in the mail. should be tomorrow. 8) Then once i figure out how to post pictures..... Its picture time!

I would love to get some 3rd members from vanquish or ssd or somewere and build my own axles just for the fun of it

Erik makes exactly what you're talking about.

Dlux Fab

From the sounds of it some freestyle rc axles would be much better suited. Wide, strong as nails and custom.

Hasn't someone on here make an axle with two long side wraith shafts? C*H*U*D is the first person that comes to mind but I can't remember for sure if it was him but if you found the thread it might give some pointers on how to do it. You could also search how to narrow wraith axles. It might give you ideas on where to cut and what to use to reinforce them when you widen them.

I did search but could not find a thread on it..

Aren't the Yeti XL axles two long sides of an ar60 in a beefier housing?

Nope. They are way different, i have an xl ad the diff is a true 1/8 diff and the axles are longer. Also 8mm input and output. Those would make a sweet super class shafty type crawler tho... :ror:

I removed 19mm from the long side of AR60 axle housings to make axles for my 1/6th scale Jerp a few years ago. They ended up being about the same width as a WK axle.
