My newbness is having some trouble interpreting the specs. If I run a Titan 12t 550 on a Hobbywing 1080 wp brushed ESC on 3s is that ok? I also have a dynamite 15t motor. My spur is 78 t and I have a 30 and 28 t pinion. This is in a twin hammers.
Thanks!

Drop the pinion loads, that's really high ratio. The Quicrun is fine on 3s[emoji106]

You're running a 12t Titan, not the crawler-recommended 21t?

Yes. I have a 15t as well, but after looking at the specs in the manual I'm thinking both of those might be too much on 3s. I can stick to 2s until I get a good brushless setup. The stock twin hammers uses a 78t spur and 28t pinion with the 15t motor.

That's a lot of go fast. I'm running a 1080 with a 21 turn in a wraith on 3s, and it's at the top end of what I want. A 12T on 2s was to much for trailing. I've also got a twin hammers. My plan is to go 1080, with a 27 turn trailmaster, on 2s. It will be a trail/ crawler, so I will lock it on the low side. It's currently disassembled, or I would try the 15T dynamite on 3s, just to see what it's like. Probably way to much.

I run a 21t Holmes TrailMaster 550 can (basically the same as a Titan) with my HW 1080 on 3S in an Ascender - plenty fast!

I even increased my pinion size a couple teeth, no temp issues at all...

What pinion would you suggest?
Not knowing what you want to achieve speed wise versus 'crawlability' I'd suggest something in the region of a 15t pinion, alongside the 3s, and see what sort of torque you get.
Volt up, gear down is the mantra [emoji106]

I wouldn't recommend that 12T on that ESC at all. It'd be ok on 2S but definitely not 3S. The 15T would also be ok 2S but not 3.

From the HW manual:

Motor Limit;
Brushed Motor Limit with 2S LiPo / 6S NiMH: ≥10T or RPM<30000@7.4V (540/550 size motors)
Brushed Motor Limit with 3S LiPo / 9S NiMH: ≥16T or RPM<20000@7.4V (540/550 size motors)

I'd say the esc would take it just fine. If the poop little 40a esc in my basher can handle a 12t Titan (mostly) on 3s (esc only rated 2s on paper) then the 1080 should take it no problem.

Interesting combo. How do you like it?

Now that you tipped me off I think it might be great for me. It'll give me the extra torque I desire in a sealed can.

Did you have to make any mods to fit the extra length of the motor in the Ascender?

I think it would be fine in a crawler, but on a go fast I wouldn't suggest it.

But I always wouldn't suggest 12T in a crawler or trail rig.

I love it, absolutely perfect - I was throwing molten rubber off on a tire scrub with the front bumper against a curb... ESC is under BPC battery tray, upside down...

I have no wires further back than the motor leads, it's all under the hood.

If I need to replace the motor I'll solder the leads at 90deg next time, but I still have clearance for the full-size 3S packs.

Sweet. Thanks.

I still use the stock battery tray though so I'm guessing the 550 might not work.

I had to cut into / remove material from one side of the tray mount to fit a 21T Titan.

In hindsight, I wish I had thought to just flip the slider mounts around and use them as new mounting points for the upper links, as I have seen some do on here.

I have mounted my battery tray with zip ties, sideways on the back of the front shock hoops, which I had planned from the get go.
