Motor Limit
Brushed Motors

540/550/775 Series

2S LiPo or 6S NiMH: ≥10T or\RPM<3000@7.4V

3S LiPo or 9S NiMH: ≥16T or RPM<2000@7.4V

So i can not have 12t Holmes motor on 3s? It says 16T max, or 2000rpm
?

Same should be with the new one? G2, same AMPs

I have seen people drive 12t Holmes in this ESC at Youtube.

What do you guys say about this?

Anyone here drive this 1080 HW esc with 10-12t Holmes motors on 3s at speed trails or Bashing for fun? long term use=
Any problems?

Turns isnt all that matters. But lower turns on 3s out bashing you have to worry about things getting hot.

I run a 13t Holmes on 3s for crawling only. This is a 5 pole motor not a 3 pole. Big difference between the two. So don’t go by turns only as said above

I understund that

I do look here
https://holmeshobbies.com/motor-recommendations

3 slot straight armature

TrailMaster Sport 550 12T - 3100Kv in brushless
Tamiya Sport Tuned - 2400Kv
Axial 540 27T - 2100Kv
TrailMaster Sport 540 27T*
TrailMaster Sport 550 21T *
Traxxas Titan 550 21T*
*1800Kv

This is Single Speed Crawler. 2Speed then you dont need alot turns or kv

5 slot straight armature
CrawlMaster Sport 550 8T - 2300Kv
CrawlMaster Sport 540 13T - 1850Kv
CrawlMaster Sport 550 12T - 1500Kv

Because it is Single speed i would like to have Atleast 2300kv.
And this would be as low 8turn

The 3100kv TrailMaster Sport 550 12T 3slot will be overkill i believe.
I like to do some terrain also.

i know that 2300kv got okey speed the brushless 2in1 HW combo.
in single speed crawlers.
So the 5slot 550 sport 8T would be nice.

Im worried about the 1080 ESC on 3s with 2300-8t 5slot

What ESC does people use to this 8t motor on 3s?

Maybe better buy that HW Quickrun Pro 2in1 2300kv brushless combo?
This is a workhorse that runs cool they say.
Only problem is i need wait and save money end of next month.

I have one 1080 ESC already, and that 8t Holmes motor is Cheap.
I can have it Monday already.

I dont want burn anything.

New question
Anyone run 8t 5slot holmes sport with 1080 on 3s?
Will it work in long term?
I can use 30mm coolingfan at the motor when it is hot and dry outside.
Have it off in wet conditions. If it would help?
Or is the 2300kv- 8t Holmes with 3s just too much for this 1080 ESC?

Also wonder is there any other ESC to these really?
What i know the HW 1080 is only good Brushed ESC to Crawlers ?
These handles also 1/8 Crawlers.

2s Lipo will be too slow with single speed crawler for some fun driving.

2speed is different story. Then a 12t-13t would be fast

Are the TURN limits to 3slot motors that HW list ?
Then maybe 8t 5slot motor may work anyway on 3s?

Someone must have try this? In your single speed trail crawlers?

Anyone have info what RPM the 8t 5slot have on 3s?

You could also go with a Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster BR-XL Brushed Waterproof ESC - 2S to 6S LiPo input - Onboard 6V 5A switchmode BEC - Brushed only - 80A continuous, NO single 540 motor limit.

I'll bet it would work with whatever 550 motor you decide on as well.

It has a lot of advanced features like Active Hold Brake (The Holmes Hold!) and Quiet mode.

Damn that TorqueMaster XL ESC must be great.
Insane it handles upp to 6s.
This must be the Worlds best Brushed ESC?

Better than cheap brushless i think.
This deserves the Brushed pro motors also.
Expensive , anyways the best pure power maybe in crawlers

Hands down on the BRXL! I’ve got both, the tunability of the Holmes is much more responsive and the braking is much better. I personally don’t like the switch for the 1080.
Both work well for crawling and trailing. Biggest difference is pricing
