High speed 2.2 tire recommendations

I've got a Tekno SCT410.3 set up with 2.2's. I've been using Proline Super swamper XL's. They are great on 3s...and the truck is fast. I also use 4s...which is ridiculous fast for this kind of truck, but I have a blast! 4s is usable if I'm careful with the trigger , but some extreme tire balloonage is obviously an issue. It will easily do a standing backflip on pavement. :)
I know that these are crawler tires and they're all going to balloon.....but what will balloon the least? I'm looking for something with a bit firmer/thicker rubber that'll hold up to lots of power. Also hoping to keep tires on the large side...I guess about 5.5 inches minimum. I have Proline 3.8 Badlands that actually work on this truck, but I like the more realistic looks of 2.2's.(plus the crawler tires are much lighter and handling is better)

Thanks for the response. I have the crawler innovations Double Deuce installed currently . You think these will be significantly better?

100% agree with switching to dueces wild foams. I'm running 1.9" crawler tires on a Slash with a 3900kv on 3s, and previously a 7700kv on 2s and 3s (motor self destructed on 3s, 100k rpm myth busted!) and the tires only balloon maybe 1/4" with DW foams in them. They also do not roll under when cornering, I would say that because of the foams, the tires are more stable and predictable than when I had regular low-pro sct tires/wheels. No joke.

I also cut a set of TSL XL's to fit sct wheels (looks like what you did on your Tekno too?) for a friends Summit LT conversion, and noticed greater stability than the same tire on 2.2"s. His Summit is also running 4s, but it's geared low enough that ballooning hasn't become an issue with the Proline foams. If your Tekno is heavy like a Summit, the DW foams ought to still be soft enough for some light duty crawling, but provide all the stability you need at speed, you'll just have to use your hobby knife to make them fit on short course wheels (assuming that is what your swampers are already fit to.)

Edit: my reading comprehension sucks, and I now see that you are running 2.2"s, NOT 2.2/3.0 short course wheels... that being said, making the switch to sct wheels with a very easy tire trim will get rid of a good amount of sidewall and help out with tire roll substantially. Adding DW foams that are cut to fit sct wheels will not only stop ballooning, but the foam won't shift sideways due to the stepped wheel. Either way, I'd start with the foams.

I run RBIIs Komp compound on my yeti on 3s with the CI single stage foams and love them. I've also considered getting some of the 1.9 Swamper Bogger XLs from proline (5.4") and running them on stretched onto 2.2s to see if that will combat sidewall roll, but haven't done it. It could very well be a flawed theory.

The Proline closed cell foams fit the XL tires shape better than the rest in my opinion. For high speed a closed cell makes alot more sense but if you have any good duct tape handy id try taping tires and see what results you get.

Echo that, the DW foams should help greatly.

If you're still experiencing ballooning, go-fast racers typically use tape on the inside of the tire or fishing string on the outside in the treads to act as belts in a tire to retain shape.

While taping the tire will work, its not better then getting the closed cell foams. Your tire will still roll during cornering using DD foams and tape. And if the tape comes undone, youll have to pull it apart and start over.

I'm definitely not taping. ..I know tape does not hold. Ive seen lots of guys try this for trugggies and monster trucks, it almost always ends in tape failure. and I'm glueing the tires to 17 mm hub short course wheels. I can't just re-do things like with beadlocks if tape comes loose.
I'm definitely going to order the Deuces Wild foams....just have to make up my mind which tires. Anybody try Duratrax Deep Woods 2.2 crawler tires? They're only $20 a pair. They look nice at least. Almost 6" tall. I don't need them for crawling, just fast fun.

Check out the proline hyrax tires. Good all around tire. Im running hyrax with dw foams on my rock rey and really like them.

I'll keep the Hyraxes in mind. They look nice. But I may hold off. I went ahead earlier today and did the fishing line wrap on all 4 tires. I ran the line right in the center of the tire. I just got done with the first 4s run and it worked great!!way less ballooning.
