Which is best Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster BR-XL & Crawlmaster motor or Tekin FX-R ?

I was planning on the Tekin with a 35T + Castle BEC set to 7,4V but maybe the HH is better. Does any1 know? Price is almost the same.

What rig is this going in?
Do you think you will ever want to run brushless?
What servo?

Since the Holmes performance & programming is close to/similar to the Castle Creations ESC's, I like it. The same Castle Link can program the ESC & BEC.
The FX-r is smaller, but I don't like the drag brake quite as much.

Either is better, in my opinion, than a lot of other options.

Charlie is right on...the Holmes Hobbies BRXL uses the same programming as most other Castle brand ESC's. This makes it easy to use the Castle Link to program both your ESC and BEC. The drag brake will be stronger on any Castle ESC you get...at least that has been my experience. Like he said above...let us know what you're planning to install these in and we can provide better help "thumbsup"

With the FXR you can do most of the programming using the buttons on the ESC and following the directions...I prefer to be able to see what I'm doing on the computer though.

Thanks guys. It'l go into a Wraith kit.
I got some bad help in the shop when I bought it and ended up with a Speed Energy 22T sensorless brushless 100A ESC which I'm absolutly not happy with. Yes it is strong, however it has no low end feeling. It will shake like a wet cold dog when I try to start slowly. I will convert to brushed and will probably stay with that unless the maintenance is a total bummer :-)
I plan to run 3S lipo and I will use the BEC at 7,4V to squeeze the last few Nm out of the steering servo. (Savöx SC1267SG 291 oz-in)
Ittybitty - am I reading that the HH ESC is made by castle?
By the way the gearing is std. kit. 20t

I'didnt really finish complaining about the Speed Energy motor ESC combo... It has no drag brake and the reverse power is less than 50% (big bummer when bashing and crawling). Lately I have experienced that the motor will not run for a while. Then I need to wait a little and then it's ok again and feels strong as new. Motor looks ok inside, so it's probably the - ESC.

Recently I put an Axial dig in it and that stuff rocks :-) totally love. Move the battery under the bonnet too, but I think the sideways balance maybe suffered too much from that. I can make some darn elegant sommersaults when going downhill too :-)

Thanks for your positive input. Love this forum.

Yes the BRXL is built by Castle for Holmes Hobbies. You can't get the same specs on any of their other controllers...especially not the Holmes Hold

Since this is going in a Wraith and it sounds like you want to crawl with it more than bash around with it I would recommend the BRXL and Crawlmaster 13t motor. If you're looking to play in the water you should definitely spend the few extra bucks and pick up the waterproof BRXL while you're at it.

If you think you want to be able to crawl at low speed just as well as having more than enough wheelspeed when you want it then I would recommend the Mamba Max Pro and the Tekin Pro4 3300kv. This is the combo that I run in my Wraith and I couldn't be happier with it. It's a sensored setup so the low end is buttery smooth and on 3S it has plenty of speed to get into trouble. I ran my last scaler in the water, but knew that I didn't want to do that with this rig so I knew this would be a good choice for me. You "can" waterproof this system by using Corrosion X if you chose to though.

I have used both and they each are a great ESC, but have there own place.

BRXL
Pro's
Can handle just about any battery and brushed motor combo.
Can order it water proofed
Has all the functions a crawler needs

Con's
Difficult to change settings in the field
Large size

FX-R
Pro's
Small
Very easy to adjust in the field
Has all the functions a crawler needs

Con's
It is more difficult to water proof but it can be done.
Limited to no lower than a 35 turn motor when running 3S

Both are great, can't go wrong with either one.

Thanks all. It's very 50/50 so I decided for the HH. However, when I wanted to order, it was out of stock. So, I went with the FX-R and 35T + CC BEC (which I would have ordered for the HH combo anyway just to go from 6V to 7.4V).

Come OOOON mailman.

Went with Tower Hobbies. They have LOADS of spares for Wraith (needed a front bumper badly too).

Keep crawling
