I just bought the brand new HengGuan HG-P417 Middle East 4x4 Pickup truck. I'm sure you are all already familiar with the HG-P407, better known as the "Chinese Bruiser clone". Well the HG-P417 is a new clone of the iconic Tamiya Toyota Hilux High Lift with 3-speed transmission.

Will this new 1:10 scale RTR RC truck turn out to be as infamous as the other clones. In this video you can see the truck fresh from the box and you will be able to check all the details of the chassis and body in close-up.

Chinese clones always attract quite a bit of controversy and this one is no different. As a copy of a Tamiya design that was introduced over a decade ago it is never going to compete with the latest design crawlers. On the other hand the Tamiya Hilux has many fans who love the scale looks but not the inflated prices. So the HG-P417 does have a market and despite the many bad points it is actually a very nice truck.

I have been testing mine along some very rocky tracks with various steep sections. Performance is actually pretty good and that is without locking the diffs. If I had locked them it would have performed even better but I am using the truck for general off-roading and not just for rock crawling.

I attach a link to the second video of the series looking at the P417.
