Ordered a gen8 pack a while back (cheapest platform I've found to start a decent rig from) along with a proline f250 honcho cab and a vaterra bed cage. Also grabbed a bunch of brass, some amazon 1.9 beadlocks (had 8 lug center caps that I thought fit the build nicely) some 1.9 chyrax tires, traxxas mirror/wiper kit, a cheap servo and hw 1080 plus a holmes 12t crawlmaster sport 550.

Painted the body first, just acrylic and a brush, was shooting for the black plastic fleet trim and work truck white paint.

Got the body trimmed and stickered up and got to mounting

the ascender cage, added a spare using an old hacked up hyrax carcass on a cut up bruiser clone wheel, matched pretty alright.

The rear frame looked goofy under the cage so I cut it down and made a rear crossmember from some square stock and a piece of flat bar (didn't get a good progress pic of it, but will show itself later on)

Boxed it in and smoothed it out

Rails fit nicely below the vaterra cage posts, so I made a cross beam with 2 holes to locate it and put a couple magnets inside the lower cage to hold it (can be seen in later photos)

Did some trimming to the cab wall to get everything to fit snug (didn't want to do sliders at this time, for a simpler look)

Was trying to sort the front body mounts, and made a mount with some trimmed down body posts, 2 slots in the lexan bumper section, and a couple vanquish d rings i had left over.

Mounted up the mirrors (figured its a 3/4 ton truck, needs some big mirrors right?)

Got the chassis sorted and everything sorted and finally got it outside. Threw a fake fairlead from the parts bin on the bumper for a little detail, it fell off almost immediately.

Felt the open space inside the bed cage needed something so I decided to make a fuel cell. Made it outta styrene and some m2 hardware.

Ran it like it was for a few months, but the lack of sliders and lexan bumper weren't cutting it, kept hanging up and chipping the paint. So I decided to make something a bit more hard-core. Boatsides are very overbuilt, 1/8 plate brackets, lower panels and upper sides, fill pieces in the wheel well is 22ga sheet.

Cut some door lines into the upper panels to give it a usable look, made some simple styrene inner fenders and painted it all flat black.

Before getting to the 2nd boat side, I decided the trimmed stock lexan bumper wasn't cutting it, one of the d ring slots had torn, and it just wasn't holding up. So to match the new boat sides I decided to make a plate bumper/stinger. Started with 1/8" angle for the base/rear of it, with 16ga for the front, a 3/16" solid round stinger and 1/8" mounts.

Very clean bumper and slider work. 1/8" plate is certainly overkill. I make alot of brackets for 1:1's out of it.

thanks. Yeah, I ran out of 16g and had a lot of 1/8" around for just that reason, its perfect for a Lotta 1:1 stuff i do, but it did make each boatside weigh 8 oz, luckily I do like a heavy rig lol. Trucks still under 10lbs somehow though.

I've been wanting to add some stacks to this truck ever since I built it, but didn't want something that could break easily. Got some 1/2" steel tubing and welded the bottoms shut with a piece of plate, tapped em both for a m3 screw and drilled a hole in the aluminum plates. Came out really sturdy, should survive some rollovers.

Finished the boatsides and made some magnet mounts for the front/sides of the cab as well. Overall weights still under 9lbs.
