Anyone else notice their micro komodo getting real hot? This is my first Outrunner style motor so idk if this is normal or not. Running on 3s and lizard pro esc

Hot to the touch and the app is telling me around 113°F. It's the micro komodo 3400kv running 3s. It's gets hot even when it's not installed. Just sitting there not giving it throttle it gets hot

Its probably a combination of 3S, pinion size used and your gear mesh in both the pinion and spur, as well as your worm gears. The little O rings on the worm gears can get chewed up fast. I used some extra o rings from my links for my overdrive gears. They are a tiny bit bigger than what it came with stock. But they seem to keep my output shaft to the axle from moving back and forth when I go forward or reverse, which can cause binding and get your motor hot.

I would try 2S, check your pinion/spur mesh. I would also check that your transmission spins freely with no motor in it. And finally check both your axles to ensure they spin easily. If all those tings are good to go. Then perhaps 3S is too much for the little motor.

The trans spins freely I have the injora overdrive axles. I put my 2s battery in it last night and with the motor uninstalled it got hot. The pinion is what came on the motor when I bought it

Out runners on crawlers get warm not even doing anything because the drag brake is powered up. 0 all the brakes, turn off drag brake and so on and it likely won't even get warm till being used.

"Hot" to the touch is a matter of opinion because the metal housing at 100° will feel hot because it's transferring heat rapidly to you're fingers.

Plastic being 100° and metal being 100° the metal will "feel" hotter.

That's fair I just would rather not burn out my motor and figured I'd rather come on here and ask a stupid question than make a stupid mistake

Not a stupid question at all.

Safest way to know is to be able to actually check the temperature. Aka the digital infrared guns (their like $10-15 on amazon).

I have that esc but on a MOFO nanobeast. It will warm up sitting still due to drag brake.

Does it stay on an incline with 0 drag brake? I ordered the lizard ultimate and that mofo motor for my comp style build and I'm pumped to try it

Depends on what rig you're running. But a drag brake is there to hold the rig on an incline. It's powered up by the esc to lock the motor in place.

My modded scx24 has been between 85-90 tops on 2s. Drag brake on, always 2s. Same with furitek cayman.

Ive had every surpass (big komodo) outrunner 2204/2208/2216 and with furitek and 2s, big pinion, 33% over drive front and back and NONE of those motor every got warm to the touch. EVER. I went back to brushed for motor size reasons and I have a PN90 130 motor and and RCAWD 180 motor. The 130 motor gets warm and I need to check into why. The 180 motor is ice cold even after a 10min run.

But I had no experience with the mini or micro komodos.

Furitek cayman with micro komodo, lizard pro with 3s for the first time 86f(30c). Drag brake set to 5. Drove it slowly on my ”indoor course”. Drove it at full speed also, didn’t check all the time, but it was also 86f, might have been a bit more.

About 80 in the shadow, and I was driving in the sun, furitek cayman with micro komodo, lizard pro with 2s. 96 f. on the porch. I love summer!
