If it helps, I’ve bought 4 pairs of Tfl beadlocks from Rc genesis and they are great! I even got them to knock off 5 bucks on each set.

Did you order directly through Taobao, or did you use an "agent"? I'd be interested to learn more details of your ordering experience so that I can learn from it.

I ordered them on eBay. I sent a bid to genesis for the first 4 and spent a 100 total with shipping which took about a month. The second 4 I got was about 92 dollars with the shipping which got to me in about a little over 2 weeks. I can’t compare them to another quality rim such as an rc4wd rim as I do not have any but they are sweet, I do a little dance every time I look at them!

Ah yes, I see a few other Chinese companies, originally only seen on Taobao, now selling on ebay or through their own website. One of those is RC-Mart. Another point of interest is that RC4WD has a pretty large presense on Taobao.

I'm hoping that someone on this forum can share actual Taobao buying experience. It's most definitely NOT a sketchy outfit. Taobao is owned by Alibaba. You may have heard of them. With operations in over 200 countries and territories, Alibaba is the world's largest retailer, one of the largest Internet companies, one of the biggest venture capital firms, and one of the biggest investment corporations in the world. Taobao, itself, is the world's biggest e-commerce website, as well as the eighth most visited website in the world. March 31, 2018, Taobao had over 617 million monthly active users. Taobao is basically the "Amazon" of China with a bit of "Ebay" thrown into the mix. However, Taobao is far bigger than Amazon. Taobao sales and revenue last year were MORE than the sales of ALL US retailers and e-commerce sites COMBINED! Just think about that! Lump together Amazon, Ebay, Walmart and every other US retailer and e-commerce, then think BIGGER! WOW!

I do not need anything from Taobao. I just like new experiences and challenges. I have a silly desire to figure it out.

So here's how it's gone:

  • I was originally unable to put anything in a cart. I read on a forum that having Google translate the page often throws off the code for various actions. Therefore, I went to the same page WITHOUT using Google translate. Success! It let me add to the cart!

  • Then I tried to pay. FAIL! Same issue. With Google translate on, nothing worked. With it off, things seamed to work well, but I could not read any of it.

  • I just thought of one last thing I can try... Keep the page in Chinese, but have Google translate open on a different screen and use it in copy/paste fashion to figure out what each button or field means. I'll try this and report back. As usual, it may take a few days. Life, wife, kids, house and career all interfere with hobby. So far, I'm not willing to give up any of the interferences!

Howdy folks,

As an American living in China, I can certainly vouch for what is sold on Taobao but as with any other transaction you do on eBay or with a direct seller, its always best to do your research before clicking on that BUY button.

Sales are predominately handled in country with excellent turnaround & low cost delivery. I just received an FYRC D90 that arrived 2 days from the date I purchased it & my delivery charge was a whopping 20RMB - $2.92 at current exchange. "thumbsup"

Biggest challenge any of you will face is you must have an Alipay account to order on Taobao hence the reason agents are around for folks who live outside China & do not have a local bank account. Some sellers will accept PayPal but its few & far between; most who export typically have an AliExpress store that will sell as significantly higher cost.

Unlike eBay, Taobao offers excellent upfront protection for buyers - Alipay holds your payment in escrow & funds are not transferred to seller until you acknowledge receipt & confirm all is OK. You typically have 5-7 days to submit an evaluation or work out any issues you may have with purchase. Returns are as simple as contacting the seller & requesting pickup.

Regarding FYRC's D90, I'm quite happy with what I got but I'm just getting to it this weekend; unlike their Jeeps the D90 comes with an unpainted ABS shell - looks very much like a copy of RC4WD's. Overall, components look solid & it weighs as much as a a proverbial brick sh!t house. I'll post a separate thread later after I get it outside.

Cheers!
