Everest-10 Drop-In Motor Upgrade?

Hi All,

Looking to upgrade the motor on my son's Everest-10 to get a little more speed out of it. He was immediately jealous of how much faster my Gen8 is. Would like to still be able to crawl well, but to at least drive faster than we are walking would be nice.

I was reading in another thread that a 35T is a good in-between. I believe the stock is 54T?

Would this Holmes be any good: https://www.amainhobbies.com/holmes...port-540-brushed-motor-35t-hhbtmspt35/p716281

When I do pull the trigger on one do I need a new pinion gear, or can I pull it off the old motor? If I will need a new one, could you recommend one for the motor recommended, and this is all Greek to me!

Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Rc4wd also makes a good 35T ... I ran one in my gen7 and she’s still juicin it down trails (I drive the dog turds out of my gen7) had her for years

I put a 27t motor in my son's e10 years ago, seemed like a good balance of crawling, and going fast enough to get out of its own way. You can just reuse the stock (14?) pinion, but I did switch to a 17t shortly after that and ran it that way for several years with no issues before switching to a 550 size motor.

I can't recall if a 550 size motor fits in a stock e10 (there's nothing left from my son's e10 besides the esc now) but if you've got another 10mm of clearance behind the motor, you'd be good to go.

Amain also sells some quick solder connectors. I’m sure you can get em other places but they make motor swaps a lot easier. I’m not very familiar but for the most part a motor is usually (atleast has been for me) a pretty straight forward swap, you usually don’t need to do anything else other than take off and put new one on.

Are you still using the stock battery? I would highly recommend a 5-slot motor if you want good low speed control and more speed. Holmes hobbies Crawlmaster sport 540 13t would be a good budget option. A 550 doesn't fit in an Everest 10 without modification.

Hello this is a pic of what Holmes hobbies sent me to look at

Then over for the Gen8 they have going with a Hobbywing 1088 esc and a Crawl Master sport 22T total upgrade cost me about $70

Everything is stock currently. Using 2000 and 5000 mAh NiMhs. Does that affect my options?

Not really. If you were using a 3S lipo, you would want to gear it down some. With the stock battery I would try the 13t Crawlmaster sport 540 and see how you like it. You can adjust the pinion size if you want more or less top speed vs low end grunt.

Thank you for the input everyone.

I ended up reaching out to Holmes Hobbies and Jeff was very helpful.

For the E10 he recommended a Trailmaster Sport 540 35T with a 12T pinion.

For my Gen8 he recommended a Crawlmaster Sport 550 12T with an 11T pinion.

On the Gen8 I think that is the stock pinion at least that is the motor Jeff told me and he just said use my stock pinion

Does anyone know if I’ll be able to re-use the cables on the stock Everest motor on my new motor or if Holmes motors come with them? If not can you point me in the right direction of what I need?

After reading this thread I dropped a stock Mabuchi 540 can motor in mine, I think they are 27 turn? really like the way it runs now, much zippier, still crawls well and nothing is getting hot.
