So. I've recently purchased a mountain bike, and was riding it pretty well, 30 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week. Pretty tough rides, mostly through grass. I will admit, I am out of shape.
However, after I started riding my bike more, I started to have some issues at work. I have to hop in and out of my van all day long, I have to load and unload my passengers and some use wheelchairs, which requires me to secure them in the van, and assist them on and off the van... Every time I got out of the van, my bloodpressure went nuts. I would step out of the van, take 2-3 steps, and my hearing would start to dim. My heart rate wasn't super high or anything, but it was annoying.
I mentioned it to a friend of mine, and she thinks I have POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). My ex had POTS, and my symptoms are totally different... But my ex also had a number of other issues.
So, I started looking at information on POTS, and discovered that there is a rather high chance I have it.
For one, I have a lactose sensitivity. I cannot drink milk in quantity, or I get issues. Cheese is okay, in small quantities. Then there's laying down to sleep. When I lay down to sleep, I go into tachycardia. Nothing like my ex, who was up around 272 BPM on one hospital visit, mine runs up to around 100-125 and stays there. How long? Hours. Try sleeping with your heart pounding... And I realized, I've had this happen to me for as long as I can remember.
I hate hot temperatures. Anything over 70F is uncomfortable, and when the temps get up to 90F or above, I start getting light headed from the heat. When I hop out of my van, if the engine heat washes over me, my blood pressure drops, and I nearly have passed out.
I've always slept with my head elevated, because it helps me sleep, and that's something recommended to people with POTS.
There's other anecdotal evidence, but I'll leave it at that for that...
I've scheduled an appointment with my GP (Nurse Practitioner). I'm going to ask her if I can get a referral for a tilt table test, to confirm weather I have or do not have POTS.
Since POTS tends to be concurrent with another dysautonomia, it gets even more 'fun'. So, now I'm looking into a genetic sequencing to see if I have any other problems, seeing as that's the easiest way to diagnose them. Most dysautonomia don't have concrete medical test methods...
I'm hoping that if I have POTS, i can use the information to increase my quality of life, especially my sleep. I've had problems with sleep since I was very young, as well as figuring out exercise that I can do and NOT feel like crap after...
I guess the worst thing that is coming to mind is Celiacs Disease. Celiacs is something you are more likely to have with POTS... And giving up pizza would be horribly painful for me.
