Soi have a large and heavy rig that uses a transfer case as the input point for the entire drive train. You can set the setup in my build thread (best pic is in post 42): http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/mult...-10x10-hemtt-rollback-hauler.html#post5939405
For transfer cases I've been running some fairly cheap units from ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/133159361281
I think they are fine for the downstream axle connections but I just blew up that front unit. I think it is too much load for the cheap gears to handle.
So, I want to custom build a transfer case. The constraints are it needs to be similar in size to what I have because there is very little room to work with, output shafts need to be 5mm and I need it to be around a 2:1 ratio (give or take).
I think a simple 2 gear setup would do the job. Make up a couple side plates to carry bearings, run 5mm shafts through and it is done. The issue I'm having is finding gears. I'd like to use some 32p hardened gears but I'm not sure which ones. Looking for recommendations. I could use pinion gears but they would make the transfer case thick, maybe too thick. The alternative is some type of gear that rides on a pin but I'm having trouble finding many size options. Here is an example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/361289052915
All inputs are welcome.
