Crawler Dimensions

I've got a Mercedes G-Wagon body that I'd like to use in building a crawler. Problem is that it's 1/18 scale. The wheelbase dimension I'm shooting for is about a 7" wheelbase (I assume wheelbase dimension is from axle-to-axle). When I see the width dimension listed in the specs for a vehicle, does that mean to the outside of the wheels (example: the Losi 1/18 Mini-Rock Crawler is listed as 7" inches wide)?

My Losi MRC with stock wheels and tires on it is 7" wide from outside edge to outside edge of tires.

Thanks for the reply! What does it measure axle-to-axle? Do you think the wheelbase could be shortened without too much trouble?

Well mines not totally stock anymore, as I have the Losi ($) shocks on it (not the stock shocks - which the stockers look to be only 3/16" shorter in length), as well as the bent links which puts the wheel base at 8 1/4" center to center on the axles. Fully compressed the wheel base is 8 5/8".

So you can probably shrink it some with either shorter links, repositioning the link mounts on the chassis, or re-configuring the shock mounts to the chassis or a combo of all: may have to cut a bit off the drive shafts to shorten them a bit as well (their plastic), depending on how much shorter you need it.

Heres a few reference pictures:
