Copperhead 10 with brushed motor

I know the Copperhead 10 will work with a brushed motor but has anyone ran one with a brushed motor and can provide feedback on how good the startup is? I'm currently using a Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster Pro 13t and I am not ready to switch over to a brushless system because it's so smooth. However, If it performs very well with a brushed motor It would be nice to have the ability to run a brushless system in the future. Would there be a noticeable difference between the Copperhead 10 and the Holmes BR-XL when using a brushed motor? Is there any reason to NOT use the Copperhead 10 with my Crawlmaster Pro?

The BR-XL is a bit old but its still a great ESC, I think you'd be hard pressed to notice a difference between it and other ESCs. JRH has kept it updated, which is great. If you havent updated the firmware with caslte link in a while I would recommend doing so, I think its on 1.13. He added active drag brake so the drag brake is still active at low speed which keeps your rig from just freewheeling downhill, its a great addition.

The BR-XL is a bit old but its still a great ESC, I think you'd be hard pressed to notice a difference between it and other ESCs. JRH has kept it updated, which is great. That was my concern, the BR-XL is based on old hardware so while it may have been the go-to ESC many years ago, any modern ESC brushed or brushless, would work just as well.

The BR-XL is a bit pricey, but it’s very nice. The hobbywing 1080 is excellent for the price, and I love the way it works, but one thing it lacks is the throttle curve of the BR-XL. Man, that thing paired with a Crawmlaster Pro is a dream. For what it’s worth, currently using both regularly, I’d recommend the 1080 and a sport motor for general use, because the value is unbeatable. It’s very good. If you want to really fine tune things, and want to be able to rebuild your motors, the BR-XL and a Pro motor is one of the smoothest setups I’ve used.

Well I'm currently using a pro motor and I love it. To be honest, adjusting the throttle curve is not much of a selling point for me because I prefer to have a linear throttle curve anyway. I know alot of people love the 1080, Maybe the BRXL is not worth the premium for my application. Other than being able to adjust the throttle curve, will the BRXL still have a noticeably smoother startup than the 1080? It's a crime to say this, but I'm still using the stock Axial ESC with this Crawlmaster and it still feels pretty damn smooth.

It’s noticeably smoother, but is it $140 smoother? I think at that point most folks are going to go 1080 plus whatever motor. From there, I’d just go to a brushless setup unless I was competitive and needed something specific.
