CC Bec, do I need Castle Link

I am planning to instal a cc bec. The electronics i have are:
Ae-5 esc, savox 0231, 20t axial, ax-3 rx and tx. I will be using a y harness that connects the servo+bec to the rx. I plan to use a 3000 mah 30c 3s lipo to power it. The bec is the 10 amp Castle Creations.

Will I need the Castle Link?

For future adjustment... yes

You will at least initially need the CC USB link
to set your voltage if the servo demands more.
But the default voltage should be set for 6v

Often your local hobby store will set the voltage for you,
and will usually do so for free... if you purchased it from them.

If $ 20. for the CC USB link seems too costly

Heyok sells an adjustable BEC that can be manually adjusted without
purchasing a castle link.
Heyok will also set the voltage during purchase if requested.

Having and knowing how to use a voltmeter
comes in handy...
to confirm the output voltage or C link setting.

Thanks for the help. I just ordered the heyok no-brainer bec. I like how no soldering is required and that power is directly transfered to the servo. Bit of a noob question but how do i decide the voltage to set it to?

that would be dependent of what servo
and what voltage it requires.

7.4v is generally the highest.
but some servo's need only 6v
and too much isn't better.

So know the voltage specifications
of the servo you are using.

And set the BEC accordingly.

You may be able to ues the field Programer
Field programmer for a HeyOK No Brainer BEC ;-)

The savox 0231 is rated for 6v. If you go over that it may not last to long. I always set the voltage to what the servo manufacturer rates it to.

Don't ya need to remove/replace the shrink wrap
in order to access the adjusting pot ?

scissors, exacto blade ? Lol

or maybe you've done something new I'm not aware of !?

not difficult... just thought it required a little more effort ? ;-)

You caught me!
You can probably just poke through the heat shrink with the tip of the screwdriver.
