Castle Electronics Noisy?

Are your Castle systems louder than other electronic set-ups? This is a Castle Mamba Micro ESC running an 0808, 5300kv motor.

I'm sure my gear mesh is proper, especially because when the motor is up to even slight speed, it sounds smooth.

But at initial startup, it sounds really rough. When the brushless motor is cogging or at initial throttle response it sounds like my gear mesh is off, but I'm confident it's not.

Are your Castle systems loud too? The last Castle system I ran had the same problem, so I'm thinking it's just something that's unique to Castle.

Thanks!

Castle ESC's do make noise but not a rough startup sound as you describe it. Instead theres a whine to them.

Check your sensor wire, it could be bad and causing it to run in sensorless mode possibly.

EDIT: thats a sensorless motor isnt it, is it just cogging?

It is sensorless, and it is cogging. It just that at the same time that it is cogging, there's also a metal chewing noise that sounds like improper gear mesh.

It could just be noisy gears though. It's 48p, metal spur and pinion.

Thanks!

I know the sound you speak of. I have heard it on several sensorless sytems when a motor is cogging. The stock sensorless electronics in the old 2.2 Axial rigs made that sound on start up. I am thinking of the Exo Terra and the Yeti. I have also had that happen with some crappy Hobby King electronics. It is a mildly cringe worthy sound. It’s why I can’t stand sensorless:ror:

Metal spurs are loud too. I ran one briefly in a Twin Hammers.

Castle ESC’s have a whine. Paired with Puller Pro it sounds like Halloween

Makes sense, and thanks for the replies. To make matters worse, I've positioned my ESC in a way that the speaker is sort of covered, so it adds static as well.

I guess I'll just deal with it, and tell myself that it's the sound of performance. One thing that has helped a bit, is trimming the throttle forward, so that it's as far forward as it can go without pushing the vehicle forward. For some reason, that has slightly reduced the noise.

No more driving my Yeti Jr in the house, as the noise drives my wife crazy.

My mamba and puller pro stubby sounds like an outrunner on startup. I like the halloween description better, though.:ror:

Thanks. That noise right after your driveshafts start rotating, that's what mine sounds like. A bunch of clicky crunching, then it's silent and smooth after that.

I'll add to my Yeti Jr thread eventually, and show you the Castle system in your old Yeti Jr Dred.

I have lots of older Castle stuff, mostly in rigs so loud you'd never hear the motors anyway. I have a new Copperhead 10 with the 1900kv sensored, and does have that strange sorta-outrunner-ish whine on startup. Otherwise pretty quiet. Nothing is as quiet as the Hobbywing Fusion, IME.
