This is likely a stupid question but I have been searching for the answer for a while now and can't find anything (probably because its a stupid question). I am in the process of ordering my first crawler with electronics and have come across the Castle Creations Sidewinder with a 4600kv motor combo. I know that this is supposed to be for a fast truck like a short course truck or something, but would it work in a crawler if you geared it down? I want a general purpose crawler/basher/rock racer so I figured it may be an option. Thanks.

it will work, you can also tune the esc to your liking if you get the castle link.
gearing down would be a great idea but gotta always check motor temp."thumbsup"

No it will not work, at least not very well. It will cog like a sum-bitch on the bottom end. That is the reason you can't really find anyone using it in a crawler.

A cheapie lathe motor will be worlds better.

Agreed a brushed motor will work a whole lot better and the Sidewinder will work with them and you can get some fast lathe motors...

X3, it WILL NOT WORk on low end, I had this set-up before, it's good for mud flying action, but as stated it will cog bad on low end speed, just get a good brushed motor lower turn if you want, say between 35t to 27t on 3s lipo, that will give you the speed you want and a good low end speed."thumbsup"
