Can I use 8.4v Ni-MH

Hi Im new to battery powered RC. I got a SCX10 tr dingo in the mail should be here tomorrow, Can I use a 8.4v Ni-MH 3000mAh in it. I got a bunch from airsoft guns, or will it blow the esc.

Thanks a lot guys we just got 18in of snow cant wait to get it out there.

Also you guys got some real talent creating masterpieces cant wait to attempt my first scale build. "thumbsup"
 
it'll work fine on a 7 cell pack, have fun. (i'm pretty sure the stock electronics are good up to 9.6v)

Thats good to know. I just ordered my SCX10 Honcho and wanted to run a 8.4v battery. I don't really care if I fry the stock electronics though, lol. I am putting in my sidewinder anyways. The stock stuff isn't worth anything.
 
Thanks, yea I dont mind frying any thing going to up grade sooner or latter. Rather buy better electronics that can handle more then buy new battery now.
 
This is good to know.

So does the 9.6v max volts only apply to Nimh, or is theat the max for Lipo as well? From what I am seeing, the 3s lipo's are 11.1v. Or, does this only apply to the stock electronics?

voltage is voltage, the ESC doesn't care where its coming from.

11.1v from a lipo, is no differnt' then 11.1v from nimh cells

9.6v is the most the stock ESC can handle (as far as I know) some people have run them on 3s, but it's not recomended.
 
I'm sorry like I said this is my first electric. Fred you said 7 cell my 3000mAh pack has 7 batteries in it but says 10c ultra high power. does 7 cell refer to how many individual packs are together.

how many individual cells correct, like a normal nimh pack for RC is made up for 6 "C" cells (actualy they are "sub c")

like a AA, the rechargable C cells are 1.2 volts, so it takes 7 of them to make an 8.4volt pack.

maybe a link to the pack you are using, i've attempted to use reciever packs as battery packs and burnt them up, knowing what you are wanting to use might be helpfull to us.
 
There is no link as i got them at a airsoft store. I think Ill be fine just being paranoid.

Should be fine, depending how worn the battery is, you can probably get almost 2hrs run time with that.
 
well i run the traxxas powercell 8.4v 3000mah batteries and i get around 45 minutes runtime with them, but mine is mostly fullthrottle hillclimbs, or full throttle mud runs,
 
Well that squashed any of my worries thanks guys but the snow we had in the northeast has slowed my shipping looks like Ill get it tomorrow. I will get up pics on the scx10 tread as soon as I get her.

Stock escs doesnt have a built in voltage cutoff for lipos. It will work fine on 3s but you have to keep an eye on pack voltage and dont let it get under 3 volts per cell. Or the battery goes poof.

I needed to know the max voltage before and on axial's site they have a manual (more like a page) on the esc and the max voltage is 12. So a 3s lipo will work. I even ran mine on 3s lipo with a 15t motor in my stampede, sadly the motor didn't last long:roll:
