Budget Mad Torque Build / Custom body

Hi all, I've been perusing these forums for quite some time now and thought I should chip in on a build thread. So what I have done is taken a Mad Torque RTR kit and done some customization. All in all I'm in to it around $500

Custom one off (made by me) crawler body
Fast Eddies axial AX10 hub bearings
Proline trencher 4.0 tires, tread cut, modified bead to fit axial rims
Axial Beadlock 40's
Custom carbon fiber skid plate
Atomik 50t Modified fireball motors
Converted to turnigy 4000mah LiPo w/alarm
Turnigy 24kg servo
HR rear steering knuckles (Axial AX10)
ST Racing concepts front knuckles (Axial AX10)
Integy Billet Winch w/remote
Custom made Pull Pal
Exceed rc 115mm aluminum shocks

Good to see more Mad Torques being built up! how much does that body weigh?

I havent actually weighed it but I am guessing a little under a pound. The wheels I think added more weight. It doesnt get top heavy surprisingly. Still gets almost 100% vertical before tipping back.

Nice fab work. Why carbon fiber on the front skid plate instead of Alu? I know it sure does look a lot cooler but I would think Al would be more durable there.

You are absolutely right about the aluminum! I love how carbon fiber looks and I had a roll floating around. When this is all bashed up I have extra aluminum from the body that will be a skid plate. I also bought an extra bumper mount to cut short for the rear to attach a skid plate.

*UPDATE*

I took your guy's advice and went aluminum for the skid plates. Much better. I got my light bar but wasn't able to mount it as one led was bad. Well thursday I will have the new one.

I weighed the body and winch @ 4 oz. Less than I thought. Working on getting a castle bec working. Stock receiver is @ 5.5v. My light bar needs 7.4v. Waiting on a castle link to program it. Waiting is always the hardest part of a build am I right?

I really like your MT! I just bought one,and I'm looking at mods to improve the steering power. The stock servo works,but it's kinda weak! What motors are you running on your MT? Any problems with gear failure?

If you lower the body...... by internal limiting the shocks, or mounting them lower. The angle is pretty good but if the moved like an inch toward the tire you'd be golden. you'll lower COG and get some better climbing out of it too.

How do you like the aluminum shocks compared to the stock plastic ones? These plastic ones seem like they take too long to recover...
