hello,
i want to use the robitronic speedster brushless crawler esc with 2s and 3s lipo.

i want to do a little bit of everything with the scx10 and need the apropriate brushless motor.

i want to choose between the robitronic 17.5T and 21.5T Platinium Brushless Motor.

Which one is the better choice?

Thanks!

for a scaler, most likely a sensored motor, which means, no or very little water near this truck.

But it's a scaler.... which to me is just wrong haha.

If you really want a brushless setup, try to read around to find one that doesn't cog and as quite a few people say volt up ( so 3s + ) and gear down.

Otherwise find an awesome brushed setup and go to town.

On my honcho I ran the novak goat with the ballistic sensored 18.5t motor on 3S. With the stock gearing it had plenty of torque for crawling and still had good speed in the open. Hope this helps.

Wow. I can't believe you guys are running 3s. That's insane! I'm only planning on 2s max.

I'm using the Robitronic with the 13.5 T motor. I'm using stock gearing (14 / 87 I think) and I love it. It crawls great and top speed is enough. Keep in mind though that I'm running 2s lipos as I'm using a digital servo directly on 2s as well as my 3racing winch. With 3s I would probably go with the 17.5 t.

If you want to still be able to get wet Hobbypartz.com sells a sensorless Tacon 1200kv brushless motor they say is for crawlers. Geared properly it should run smooth enough. They also have plenty of even lower kv motors including a 700kv.

Wouldnt you want sensored for that awesome startup/low speed control? As I understand it, all you have to do is waterproof the sensor ports but not the motor itself, right?

Well a sensorless motor of appropriate Kv run off a good Esc won't cog at low speeds, but it won't be as smooth. However if you want to be aable to submerge the motor there is a trade off, you know?

As far as waterproofing a sensored motor I've never had trouble with minor water contact with the sensored motor in my Slash, splashes and rain, but I've never submerged it. As far as I know the sensor port isn't your problem, the sensors inside the can are. If they are submerged they might fail, and turn your sensored motor into an unsensored motor that runs real bad lol.
