Im building the Kit version of the Axial Yeti 1/10 Rock Racer. I intend to use it as a basher -no "official" racing at my local hobby shops 1/8 scale dirt track and general dirt fun, perhaps also on hiking trips to rip up and down along hiking trails. I do not intend to do hardcoew Rock crawling. The motor I am considering is this one which I intend to run a 3 cell Lipo:

Castle Creations 010-0091-00 Mamba Max Pro SCT Combo with 1415-2400KV Motor, 25V ESC

Its a 550 size 4 pole non sensored motor with an MMP esc.

im thinking this will give the truck alot of torque and speed on a 3 Cell Lipo.

I would just like some advice and insight on how it will perform, and suggested Gears.

I found this MMP & 1415 2400KV combo for as low as $134 and at that price its very compelling. Other motors I am considering are the Tekin Pro4 HD 3000kv -sensored. This jumps the price up to about $300 w/ an MMP ESC and even higher with the Tekin RX8

I currrently drive Losi and Team Associated 2WD short course trucks and in those I run Tekin Redline w/ Tekin ESC.. this is my first 4x4.

Any advice, insight and suggestions are greatly appreciated because I have no experience with the Yeti 1/10 and motor esc selection.... and I need to choose a motor now.

Thanks

I think the 2400kv Castle motor will be slow even on 3s, that setup wouldn't be much faster than a RTR version on 2s. I feel the sweet spot for the Yeti is around a 3500kv 550 motor on 3s. The Holmes Puller Pro XL and Tekin Pro4 HD are popular choices for 3500kv motors. Some people are liking the Toro S-Pro4 as a lower cost alternative as well.

Another option could be the Castle 2400kv motor on 4s which would be quite close to a 3500kv motor on 3s. I run a Tekin Pro4HD 2500kv on 4s in my Yeti and I am very happy with the performance.

That Castle 2400kv motor would be a very tight fit against the battery tray since it is right around the maximum length that the Yeti can fit. You may need to trim the battery tray a little to make it work.

As for gearing, I would start at the stock ratio of 4:1 and adjust from there.

I have two Yetis with the Holmes Puller Pro 540XL (3500kv). Both are powered by Castle MMP ESCs and I have been very pleased with them. I love the torque and the fact that they are sensored motors. Both are running with the stock gearing and for all around bashing and trail running, I see no reason to change. You definitely cant go wrong with them in the Yeti.

+x

I'm in the same boat.. Would the 3800KV on 3S be a noticeable difference from the stock Vanguard?

Going to a 3800kv motor would be a nice boost in top end but if you are talking about the Castle 3800 heat may be an issue since it is quite a bit smaller than the stock RTR motor.
