Kinda weird. One of my coworkers showed up about a month ago with a Rubik's Cube, and I was taken back to my young young days. I hadn't seen one in twenty years, and was kinda amazed they still made them. He ends up always having it on him, and whenever we have down time (or take a smoke break), he is messing with it. So, I call him a nerd for a couple of weeks, but then it starts to catch my interest (which would make since because I am a nerd), so I head out to get one of my own.

I hit up my local Wal-Mart, none on the shelf. Few days later, I hit up a KB Toys, sold out. Hit up another Wal-Mart and a Target, sold out. Next day, my wife is heading near the Toys-R-Us, so I ask her to stop by..................she comes home with a "mini keychain version" Rubik's Cube, because they are sold out of the real ones!!

Why is the world sold out of Rubik's Cubes? One of the guys at KB mentioned something about them being in a Will Smith movie, and since then, people have been wanting them.

Anywho, so for the past few days, I have spent WAY too much time cubing."thumbsup" They are addicting as hell!! I am pretty quick solving up to the yellow "layer," then I am clueless!! To this point, I have refused to look for guidance online, so I am just figuring it out on my own. I know that my next goal is setting up the yellow "cross," but getting there is a PITA!!

So, since these things have apparently gotten so popular, anyone else playing them???

I did a few years ago. I twisted it up, and never could solve it. So, its sitting in a box somewhere waiting for me to get less pissed off with it so I can go back and try to solve it.

These are all over the local high school. Part of the new retro trend i guess.

my 8 year old daughter wanted one a few weeks ago. it's sitting on a shelf somewhere with just 1 side solved. I tried watching one of the many YouTube tutorials, but I lost interest.

Yea, I have seen that there are a few tutorials on there, but so far I have held out from watching one. My coworker has given me some pointers, but he knows the lingo of the cube (I think he has cheated with the online lessons), and he loses me real quick, so I think about 90% of what I have learned has been self taught.

But watching some of the speed videos on youtube is fun!"thumbsup" One handed in 17.9 and 20 seconds..............that is cool!!! The youngsters are fun to watch also. The "behind the back" and "blindfolded" stuff is just memorization.

ive got a few laying around somewhere.
ill give you one tip though. as cool a party trick it is, and the amount of bets you can win by knowing how to solve them, DONT LEARN HOW TO DO IT.
i learnt when i was 8 and that was the end of that. the fun was lost.
but.....you can make some good money from it though "thumbsup"

'eh I got pissed, peeled the stickers off......ta-da I did it "thumbsup"

My parents pulled all the stickes off mine and did'nt put them back on. It was all black then so, I thought I was a genius! I'm still retarded to this day

You gotta learn to be able to move chunks that are solved, and then be able to move other pieces around, and then be able to get the solved pieces back to where they once were.

I mastered the triangle version in no time flat, and that showed me how to solve the cube.

I like cubing. A few of my friends can solve them too. I cant solve the 4x cubes all the time, I get some 50/50 parity issue at the end that causes one chunk to be flipped. I like the homer simpson head. If you want a real cube hit up rubikscube.com or whatever it is.

I had one back in the day. Figured they'd get popular again with Pursuit of Happiness. I solved mine three or four times before it got old. I'd get everything one color, someone else would mess with it and try and get it back (and inevitably make it worse in the process) and I'd fix it again. At this point, I could probably pick one up again, but who has time?

Yeah, totally serious. My best friend (that I taught) can solve them in about 1.5 minutes on good days. He beats me about every time we race.
