Another losi scaler from ohio

So after what I'd call a very successful build of a scx12 (it's so far beyond a scx 10 I totally skipped 11) I figured it's time. I've built a few losi based crawlers in the past. I have learned alot, Mostly from trial and error... lots of error.
I also wanted to prove a point about frame choice also. So I decided I am going to use a stock axial frame.

So the first thing that needed to be done was make a skid that would fit axial frame rails but have accommodation for the LNC trans.

That is the start but I needed to do some (secret sauce stuff) to get the stock losi 4link mount to fit with the trans.

Success!

Not that I've got the trans mounted to the "home brew" skid and some frame rails mounted to that. It's time to get the links and shocks mounted.

I know that I want the shocks at approx. A 40° angle off the axles. (ish) so I got to work with more delrin

So here's what I came up with for the rear shock towers. It has some adjustment holes so I can tune it once it's closer to finished.

The rear is set I decided I am gonna go with a droop setup on this build. I like droop for many reasons.

So now onto the front shock towers.

GIJOE has dubbed these the "battle axle towers" and I like it. I went alittle overboard on design. But it's still very lite and has loads of holes for adjustments.

I am really liking the flex and smoothness of the stock losi shocks with a heavy oil.

I had some spare 5/16" aluminum bar and decided I wanted to make a bumper for the front. And I had a spare integy (I know. Integy yuck) winch. But I wanted to winch to mount neatly to the aluminum and not use the mounting plate that came on it.

So now that that's done I have to pick a suitable body for it.

here's a blurry pic of how it sits currently.

I am going to hold off on mounting the bumper until I find a body. I want the winch to sit just behind the grill of what ever I put on there.

I decided on this build I'd go with a truck cab only. Leaving the rear shock towers and frame exposed.

I decided on a body and removed the bed. And filled in the back of the cab.

I also shortened the wheelbase by removing 1" out of the rear links. Which screwed up my shock location causing me to make another shock tower. (Although the new rear towers look better than the old ones.)

I have a bunch of free time tomorrow. Hopefully I can finish the electronics

I'll also post more pics with the body off.

I thought my new C3 made you quit scale and start Competitive Bird Housing?

Looks to me you're coming for my C2 with both guns BLAZING!!!!
I like it! Maybe I should do a "New and Improved" C2!

GIJOE you know me. theres nothing to see here. just a simple little build. and birdhousing is always a possibility we will see how the 2016 season is for me first though...

I wonder if there is a RCC for birdhousing....

anyway. I have a bit more progress made on this build. and I am shocked to say that the current rtr weight (without battery) is a scale tipping 3.75LBS I am sure that I will be closer to 4 once finished but we will see.

Bah, you guys are no fun! (secretly planning new knockoff GURU rig before KOG... wait, did I type that out loud?)

Here we go. I got all the electronics installed and wired up cleanly. I cut every wire and re-soldered it to the exact length I need. No need for extra wires bunched up or hanging around.

I still need to make and install a small front bumper.

The BEC fit nicely under the ESC next to the driveshaft

And I put her on a scale and we're still under 4lbs rtr (without battery)

Hopefully I can get the body mounted and find a battery location today.

Now to fab a front bumper and program the esc and bec. Then I get to pull the axles off re-create everything install a HD worm gear and do the final re-assembly

So tonight I hooked up all the electronics to the castle link and adjusted all the programming. And went to bind the rx to my tx and discovered that my tx ( a spektrum dx4c is a 2nd generation) and won't bind to any of my spare receivers... so. I guess... I'll get another rx dsmr this time aaaaaannndddd try again.

I am not the only light weight losi stalking the comp scene in ohio... and I am definitely not the first, and honestly I hope I am not the last...

I have got to start checking the LCC section more often. Nice build Mr. Bits. Is there a CMS without a panhard?
For now. I am a bit rushed to get this together for a few comps coming up. But I hear a company has a BTA servo plate for losi axles.

So after this rig (she's been named spiderpig) first comp I am very pleased how it did.

I was running brushed with a castle SV3 and a 35T brood motor.

I have since them swapped for a Holmes BLE and a savox 10.5T sensored brushless. It seems to be doing very well. But only time will tell.
