87 Xtracab, you'd think one mini-me was enough.

Hey everyone, finally getting my rc4wd xtracab body close to it's finish point.
As the owner of a 1:1 87 xtracab 4wd I was (to say the least) stoked when these dropped, and after getting screwed around on the tower hobbies preorder I ended up snagging one from RPP. My Enduro is already a mini-me of my 1:1, and this one is going to be similar, but not exact. I really wanted a base model style truck, with steelies and highway tires, no crazy rock sliders or winch bumpers. Just an old truck to cruise around and tow my trailer with.

Truck started as my old tf2 kit that I was the 4th (that I know of) owner of. Changed out the rails to a lwb set, stock axles, 2 speed, case, Chino'd bruiser leafs for trailer weight, etc. Rc4wd 35t, ancient holmes bls servo, nothing fancy. The wheels are rc4wd yota steels with rc4wd goodyears for that scale look (it's a glorified shelf queen at this point, it'll just be a walking trail truck).

My enduro and 1:1

First real mock up. Spent a bunch of time trying to get the warp out of the hood and it kept coming back. Mudflaps are cchand.

First paint job (toyota 8a1 medium blue) ate itself.

Second turned out pretty nice. Cheated and got my dad to spray it.

Hood was still wonky, ended up buying a 4runner hood for it.

Interior, Sem matte shadow blue with some primer action in the seat centers.

Mocked up today with the warpy hood (still haven't finished the straight hood). Back window doesn't fit well at all, but it'll be good enough for who it's for.

Along with my ifs enduro with it's 87 converted proline body.

Have a set of Aisin hubs on the way for it instead of the warns, and a trailer hitch to be able to actually use my trailer. On the fence on getting the factory DLX package stripes remade again for this body, but might do it.

Danm both look awesome but the RC4WD takes the cake. I just got a 85 4Runner body but now I want a 87 Xtra cab also. Your dad did a beautiful paint job, I;d be nervous running it. lol

It's a glorified shelf queen haha. It'll pull my trailer with a sand scorcher on it, cruise around on walking trails and cars and coffee's, stuff like that. I didn't want to run sliders or any body protection on it for that reason.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread here, but man does this look great! This makes me want to get a TF2 and 87 Xtra Cab haha.

How do you like the TF2? Is it durable? It’s obviously really scale, and I think it would be perfect for my next crawler since I want to go all out on scale goodies next time around[emoji1690]

I have a TF2 and a couple other leaf spring trucks, I really like them. You just have to remember you're goin more for scale and not so much performance. But you'd be surprised how well leaf trucks can perform after some work. I'd say the best bang for the buck TF2 is the Marlin crawler version which is what I have.

Thanks for the response!

For sure, a TF2 isn’t a crazy crawler by any means. I think it would be awesome to see an old 79 F250 with leafs underneath it.

Before I set this one up as a lwb I wheeled the heck out of it, do a couple small things with them and keep in mind what they are and they'll impress you.

This was the same truck and it's adventures pre-lwb conversion

Just opened up my latest issue of Toyota4wdowner, and I recognized your truck in the reader's rides! Congrats, your trucks are now known worldwide. I was surprised to see the Enduro over the TF2, I mean how could they not feature both!

They did it for the article before the tf2 came about, that's why the enduro is still without decals and on the old wheel setup in it. Heck the big truck wasn't buffed in the pics they had haha. They had the tf2 and enduro and big truck on their facebook and instagram pages though, which was pretty cool. When they emailed me that I made it into readers rides I sent them some updated pictures. I was stoked either way, was awesome getting the trucks into them "thumbsup"

Truck got a bit of a change up recently, went more for the South Carolina hunting truck style. Picked up a used rc4wd tuff box and had to modify it a bit to fit, added a sand scorcher cb antenna on a mount I fabbed up, and some rc4wd narrow tsl's on rc4wd 1.55 stockers (centerlines).

Every time you post that Scorcher bug on the trailer I die a little on the inside...

It's SO gorgeous!

Your killing it bud. Now your on rpphobby's front page! Spreading all the toyota goodness around.

Trailer setups pretty sweet too.

Sbg's Ig too today haha! Thanks, honestly haven't run them further than around the house, waiting on the weather to turn better so I can go to one of the local walking trails and adventure with it a bit. I can tell you they throw rocks and dirt like full scale tsl's haha

That’s funny, I was just watching RC Everyday’s video on his CB antenna with a tennis ball last night lol. I need to make/buy a CB antenna for my bodies, been wanting one for a while.

New shoes look good. That whip is a little too tall imo, scales to about 20’ haha.

A lot of the high school kids down here started running 10-12' or whatever the tallest whip they could find with a bunch of tennis balls on em over the last couple years lol, was part of the south carolina joke :lmao:
