Re: What is a sleeper for dummies

Sleepers are always cool.
Nice find

Thanks...I love that video.

Would you think it would be fun to read a build thread on an scx10 with a sleeper themed build?..Meaning it looks like a stock RTR but has more changes done to it than it might appear with improved performance over an actual stock RTR or even some aftermarket built trucks.

Or is it something you've seen before and read all over forums on sleeper builds for scx10's?

True, sleepers are cool.
But racing on public roads is not.

This is how you do it. :)

Re: What is a sleeper for dummies

Sleepers are rigs that don't look out of place but have performance far, far better than they should be capable of.

Unfortunately snark your scx is not a sleeper it is simply modified stock. Does it perform better than it did fresh out of the box? Sure it does. But can it challenge a rig from a class or two above it, highly unlikely.

A true sleeper r/c would be a sportsman or pro rig with a scale body along with scale wheels & tires. That is a rig that can climb a wall but look basic.

Well I most definately made no claims it can out perform anything but maybe stock and some with more apparent changes..A sleeper is anything with more performance than expected..A Mustang that looks and sounds stock but is a second or 2 faster than an actual stock mustang is a sleeper.

Some sleepers are stock and some are made

Youre right though..it would be a modified stock appearing scx10 but the sleeper part is you not knowing it was modified because you cant see where any changes have been made so in your mind are thinking it is just a stock scx10...Its not till after the fact you figure its performance seems better than stock but by then its too late...you were fooled by a sleeper.8)

Re: What is a sleeper for dummies

will the truck still have weak spots?.sure it will..but so do common sleepers..if you watched the vid do you not think slicks on the taurus would make it perform better or some suspension changes?..,More engine mods?

An scx10 could use things I wouldn't change for the simple fact it would give things away and make it more apparent its not stock...Would installing a blower in the Taurus that stuck out of the hood change its status?..i think it would.

But what I can do and others can do as well (nothing new changing gears or adding weight to wheels and other known changes one can make) would improve it enough that I can let some things go for the sleeper status and live it with for the time being..Unfortunately exactly everything I would do is not going to be known now because trolls destroyed the thread and the fun in it for me and I ended the thread build..Now its just a bunch of hating trolls who think im cocky for starting the thread.

So is what it is i guess..maybe if i delete it a mod can bring it back for laughs with the buddies.

Overdrive gears in the rear axle...Well you cant see the mod so you don't know its there..I mean everything else looks stock don't it?...Sucker!!!

Don't see how it can perform better?

p.s. Sharky those gears are meant for the front. "thumbsup"

Isn't that when you make your hand go to sleep and then use it to...

That trucks a lot faster than they show . With so much nos it's not even funny . The motors also bigger than the 502 they claim .

Sounds mean nothing . We spanked a lot of nasty sounding ass in the day .
