I've always wanted a CR-01 since they were first released, but I never pulled the trigger and I'm not sure why. I finally decided I had to have one one and started ordering 3Racing parts before I even had the truck kit. I had my mind set on the Bronco kit, but that changed when I found a great deal on this NIB Land Cruiser that included a bunch of NIP Tamiya hopups including the shock set. After I ordered the kit, I ordered even more 3Racing parts. This is going to be a heavy, shiny rig. I don't usually bling out my RC's. Instead, I upgrade to aluminum parts where I believe they will benefit most which is only a few spots. I understand the drawbacks of aluminum, but it looks so cool on the CR-01 that I had to do it. By the time I am done, I am going to have a fair amount of plastic parts leftover that will probably get me half of a second CR-01. Whether or not I turn the leftovers into a truck is yet to be determined.
I am going to post my build (my first build thread), but I am still awaiting the arrival of parts so my build kind of skips around rather than following the manual.
The box with awesome Tamiya art. I know everybody has seen this. Opening an RC kit is always exciting, but Tamiyas always seem to be the best. The packing is nicer than the rest and the cool art is a nice touch.
Here is the first round of hopups. The Tamiya parts were included with the purchase of the truck and the rest were purchased separately.
Second round of hopups.
First step was to assembly the stock Tamiya chassis with the 3Racing side plates. I love 3Racing products and their shade of blue anodizing is so cool.
Secondly, I built the axles and installed ProLine 2.2 Flat Iron tires on the optional chrome rims from Tamiya with 3Racing beadlock rings.
More parts arrived for the axles.
They sure look pretty now!
Next up I built the shocks. As I stated, I got Tamiya shocks along with the purchase of the kit, but I had already ordered 3Racing shocks before this. I've had great luck with 3Racing shocks, and their parts in general, and these fit the color scheme so I decided to use them. I like how 3Racing color coordinated the pistons with the shocks set. A simple, useless, but very cool touch.
The shocks came partially assembled (the o-rings and spacers were installed in the bottom of the body of the shock). The build was very easy and the shocks seem to work well.
That's it for now. The build will continue when I receive the rest of my parts.
