3 vs 4 link?

3-link pros
better then leaf spreings

cons:
more torque twist
axle wrap

4-link pros
less torque twist
no to little axle wrap
smoother suspension movement
better link geometry

cons:
cant think of any

How far apart do the links need to be on the axle side? I have seen some WKs changed to 4 link and the links are only 1/2" apart, that doesn't seem like it would change much from the 3 link...

1/2" is fine. With the four link the links are connecting to the axle at 2 pionts instead of one. With a three link the links connect in the center and cause a pivot point if you know what I mean. Think of it this way...with the lower links off and a three link upper setup you could spin the axle around 360 degrees on the "pivot point" where the upper links mount. With a 4 link you can't twist it more than say 60 degrees or so maybe more though. Kinda seeing what I am saying now? So basically thats the best way I can describe it and thats how it helps with torque twist. Way better setup than a three link. I run four link front and rear. I would have only done the rear but my front three link was getting slop in it so I swapped it out for a four link. Rear is the most important though. Hope this clears it up a bit. "thumbsup"

You could run a wishbone style 3-link...I'm running one on my fullsize Chevy. A wishbone is fairly close to a triangulated 4-link, except for the upper link is one piece instead of 2 individual bars. It really keeps the rear-end in check too - and that's on a full size truck. The rear of my fullsize has a fair amount of articulation, and I'm only running poly bushings...But my truck's not set up to crawl either...
