I would think a pair of these:

2 IMREN IMR 26650 HIGH DRAIN 60A BATTERY 3.7v Rechargeable Li-MN 5500mAh w/CASE | eBay


in series creating 7.4 volts @5500ma would be safer than LiPo's. Can't seem to find a 2s charger that would apply. I just received:

and depending which chassis i go with a standard 7.2 NiMh might be a battle.

I hardwire my batteries(7.2 NiMH) in my tamiya fj40,tamiya 370z and K5 ascender. With my trucks i run a 2.1 x 5.5 mm charging jack to my fabricated tailpipes i e done with driving back it up to my charging station and just plug it in...charger does its peak detect goe beep beep beep and shuts down.Hoping to to the same with these LiMn's if they can be configured safely. Thanks in advance.

I would say no 22 amp is vary low for a 10 scale that's around a 4c discharge. If you take care of your lipo they are safe and a great battery.
 
What else servo, lights, winch, weight of the truck? You can try it but I'm thinking any bind up and the Batteries gonna fail. I never go by the max discharge rate of a pack always use the continuous gives you some leeway. Even at 60 amp that's a 10.90c pack max for a vary short time.

There are several issues when using Li-Ion type cells (18650 and 26650). The biggest is MANY are severely over-rated by their Chinese marketers. If it's a true 22A/60A, then I can use the INR18650-25R I use for airsoft as a possible example (20A/100A). According to tests performed, at a constant 25A the INR18650-25R will heat up to 175F after just 3 minutes (max safe). Samsung makes these for Milwaukee power tools and the ratings are replicated well by users. I googled that IMREN brand and user tests of these cells fall short. A 20A/40A 18650 tested at 20A exceeded 180F; note that metal-cased cells do not cool down quickly!

To give an idea what a 540 pulls, my wraith draws 30A on grass with a 45t. My airsoft motor is smaller than a 540, drawing 15-20A, and only for a second or two at a time. The 20A/100A cell is just barely enough for the smaller motor, so that 22A/60A will be insufficient even if rated accurately.

As far as "safe", it's not much safer than a LiPo when you short it. I've seen accidentally shorted LiPo's puff like crazy but not catch fire. A metal case contains the fire...until there's enough and it explodes like a pipe bomb. The metal case only makes it safer from blunt impacts. If you mount a LiPo properly in a truck, it will never bounce around nor get punctured.


Long story short: get a lipo and treat it with respect.
