2012-2013 USRCCA Regional Series

UPDATED 06.24.13. Final Scores from both Regions are up. Congratulations drivers and thank you to all that made the effort to attend every event in their Region. Stay tuned to this thread for trophy information.

Welcome to the 2012-2013 Regional Series thread. At the 2012 National Championships Fishmaxx and I were talking about the 2011-2012 National Series and what could be done to keep the tradition going. As it turns out he was more than happy to let me take the helm and crunch the scores from all of the 2012-2013 Series events to determine the top crawlers by Region. If you have any questions about the Regional Series scores please post up here. This thread (and my responsibility) will not cover any aspect of the National Championship event. For all Nationals related questions please contact Fishmaxx after thoroughly reading his post here.(when link available)

Here we go! The only major change for 2012-2013 will be that there will be no “National” Series per se. As you saw from last year there were only three drivers that even qualified for that series so no one will miss it anyway. It’s also more representative to compare drivers who have competed against each other more than once hence the Regional calculations only. On top of that, Fish scored a highly respectable third place spot in the 2012 National Series and we can’t let him do that again;-).

Here’s how the 2012-2013 Series points will be handled. This year there will again be parallel East Regional Series and West Regional Series. New for this year is that all four classes will be included in Series points calculations. In order for a class to qualify for Series points at a given event we’ll follow Fish’s rule of a minimum of 12 contestants for class eligibility. Each Series will be comprised of a minimum of 3 Nationals qualifying events with no dropped scores regardless of the number of qualifying events per coast. Instead of the drop rule I’ll average the scores (rounded up/down to whole points by Excel). This way good days and bad days count and we’ll get a more accurate estimate of the best and most consistent and committed drivers by region. I’ll be in touch with the organizers of each event to gratiously request an excel file or something similar (not and image file!). I will place updated points averages on a shared Google Doc as soon as possible after each event. There will inevitably be delays due to misspelled names etc so please be patient. In the past, some folks on the lower end of the point spectrum didn’t take kindly to having their scores calculated and repeatedly posted for all to see. Taking their feelings to heart I’ll only share the scores for the top ~30 drivers in each region. This number may change and we’ll see how it goes. I can’t make everyone happy here so if you don’t see your scores and want to know them please PM me at the end of the Series. The Regional Series closes July 31, 2013. Any events occurring after that will not be factored into the Series calculations.

Currently, our Regional Series exist solely in the electronic world (in silico for you geeks). If the victors want tangible recognition for their efforts, back-o-the-napkin math shows we need to secure funds for 24 total awards across the Regional Series. I haven’t yet figured out how or if we can do that. Please post up with funding suggestions if you want hardware to go with the Series scores announcement at Nationals. Otherwise we may just recognize the top Series drivers at Nationals by pulling them up in front of the crowd and unloading on them with a fully automatic Nerf gun.

Now to keep our good ol’ East West rivalry going feel free to challenge the driver on the other coast in your same final points position to a crawl-off at Nationals. You’ll know your points standings well before Nationals so there will be plenty of time to book travel plans and get your game on. Both of you can show up and duke it out on the rocks, literally if you like. This way we can know for certain who the 23rd best driver in the country really is.

Thanks ahead of time to all of the dedicated drivers, organizers, judges, sponsors, wives, kids etc. that make the individual qualifying events possible. Good luck to all you crawlers and make sure to sign up for an event near you as soon as tickets are available. I'll updated this post with Qualifying events as they are scheduled.

Thanks a lot for taking this on Joel. I am excited for it.

I like the addition of the other classes. Will the drivers be separated into classes that they ran or will all the classes just meld into one another?

Wow Joel...you didn't have enough to do before takin THIS on too? Animal.

My pleasure Erik. Separate classes my friend hence 12 podium spots per Region (1st, 2nd, 3rd for Super, 2.2P, 2.2S and 0.0000019) if sufficient drivers for each class attend sufficient events.
