I am currently attempting a scale rig running 1.9 wheels and tyres
I have researched as much as I think i need but am sure will need some help. I couldn't afford a axial scx so I bought a clone of the Axial ax crawler called Maverick Scout. Hpi's baby company.
Anyways so far I have been through this...
Had jeep spare body lying around so tried to make a chassis for it.

Tried a snorkle job using a pen and lighter to heat up and bend but didnt turn out well.

Ripped the snorkle off as it was a load of ...
Finally got delivery of my maverick scout (Uglier than the mouse making a home in my flat)

This is the chassis I bent and cut up (Using a gas cooker) need a garage and tools lol. Would love to weld but for now am researching silver solder for cages e.t.c

Another load of... So decided to mount a straight chassis using parts of the stock chassis and steel rails.

Decided to take my time and make a better snorkle. 3 hours making this.
Oh yeah I have gone carbon fibre crazy with the Jeep so I guess its gonna be a blingy off roader type, if they exist. What you think of the carbon guys?

This is were I am now. Body waiting for velcro to mount on chassis. I have an axle skateboarding problem were they turn when articulated . Still to trim windows, do the interior, under wheel arches/wells, waterproofing, lights, roof rack, bumpers to be welded on(can it be done with silver solder? Star cut the inserts, front wheel weights, internal shock spring, plus do the second body for it (Land rover series 1) and loads more. Low financial funds mean nearly everything will be scratchbuilt.

Oh yeah got a 27 turn motor that I am going to fit and the rear cab took around 3 hours with styrene. Carbon fibre is vinyl. Wheels are cheap Ansmann ones.

I think you right

CrawlinnTN, you right bout the carbon fibre, but its sort of growing on me. The wheels were really cheap from Modelsport Uk.
Cut my springs to get a lower ride height. But now when the truck gets back down to normal the shock does not go back to its normal ride height after the shock has been extended.

Nice articulation though without the body rubbing

This is its maximum ride height.

Do I need an internal shock spring to bring it back to normal. Will the spring from a spring loaded pen work? My 1st build don't forget, so be gentle if its a stupid question.

turned out awesome for your limited tools.
did I read right that you heated and bent the chassis with a stove? haha

lol

Yep, Gas stove heated the area I wanted to bend. Put the metal between a kitchen drawer handle and gently bent it. It does work, just have to do it slower than I did as I still got kinks. Wait till you see the bumpers am trying to bend and cut now. Same method lol.
Wouldn't advice this as it will cause problems with the girlfriend/wife/mum when you leave scratch marks on the drawer haha.
