This is the first attempt at any build of this magnitude. sure I have messed with toy rc's etc, but this new world of suspensions, shocks, knuckles etc has kinda thrown me for a loop!

Anyhow here is what I am trying to do. From what i can see, it has been done before... kind of.
I am going to build a 1:16th~ scale Duce and a half, or M35, etc. Basically going for a 6x6. but not the incribley oversized crawler wheel look.

So, for a Frame, I understand that you can build one out of Alum, etc. a good 16" long or so would do for the truck. Just dont know how wide it has to be for the guts.

And speaking of guts, is it just easier to buy a kit like Tamiya TLT-1 Rock Buster? I have NO exsperiance with these, so I have NO clue if you can make the rear axle feed to another rear axle, etc. I assume I would just have to bite the bullet and buy another rear end assemble off ebay or something that would match what I get.

For axle's, I have noticed that finding a solid axle is almost impossible in the advanced RC world. is there no "drive kits" etc for semi trucks?

Anyhow I proabbly have a million more questions that I cant think of nor have the time before work.

Thank you guys in advance for any good solid advise!! ^_^

I used to be in the National Guard, and the truck the assigned me was a deuce. I loved driving that thing. It was so huge! Not really powerful, but huge and could go anywhere. I had to work to get one stuck in a tank trap!

Anyway, if you are building it to scale and have decided on a length that decides the width for you. If I was building it, I would mount all the electrics in between the frame rails. So they would have to be wide enought to accomodate the battery's width, and possibly the servo's width. Both, however, can be 'stood up' to reduce there footprint.

Solid axels will be hard to find. There isn't any real need for them in r/c. For the rear axels, I would get two tlt or txt axels, lock the diffs, and drill a hole through one of the pumpkins to get a drive shaft through to drive the back axel.

Ask at your local hobby shop, they should be able to let you measure some electric component parts if you tell them why.

If you can get this together it will be HELLA COOL!!!

Best of luck

Search the scale section,it's been done before. If I'm not mistaken,Microgoat is the one I seen building a scale big rig with 2 live rear axles. Seems like they were TLT axles.

my hilift was inspired by a 2 1/2 truck, although i used only 1 rear axle. if you use a bolink powerwagon, a tlt kit and 1 extra pinion side of the tlt axles you'll have youre dual rear axle. as for a solid front axle that isnt powerd you can use the front axle from the tamiya king hauler, its the same dimentions as a tlt axle.

Ditch the Duece and build a 5-ton, Seriously though I dont know that anyone has actually built a scale deuce but there have been several 6x6 build so you should be able to adapt what does come to mind if you want scale your going to have to build your own axle since the deuce uses a shaft between the front rear axle and the rear rear axle, Check out the Tamayia semi trucks I think they used to build a 6x6 version would make going scale allot easier just not cheaper

then how about these:

then model them with these tires instead of the flotation tires

to make them look like

of course i would put a back on instead of just leaving it frame.
