I found a thread but it was from 2011. I figured things have changed since then. What is the best tire and compound for rocks and wood and other trail stuff? I've read good things about the Pro-Line Hyrax. Just looking for some opinions that are not 6 years old. Sorry if it's been covered elsewhere.

I like these are they good? Worth the money $80 a set?

I had the rock beast for a minute. Nothing showed they made a xl version on hobby town so I ordered the “normal” size. Normal size was smaller than our stock tires. I ended up ordering the proline bfg krawler and the proline single stage foams. Does great in every aspect(water, rocks, mud, and so on).

I recommend the proline hyrax and the proline dual stage foam. I also added the ssd brass portal covers on all 4 corners and can climb some serious steeps as well as good sidehilling even with the heavy defender body. Have also ran them on my ascender and can say the hyrax is a very impressive tire. with the lugs being siped they really grip the rocks and the tread blocks are spaced far enough apart that they can clear mud and damp dirt.

holy smokes, 15% off at amain.

That's what I really wanted. I've just read a lot about Pro-Line tires not going on beadlocks very well. I've seen the Pro-Line rings for their tires on other beadlocks but mine don't use a center ring. Do I just have to pony up for new wheels too?

Today there is many great tire options.... i have and love proline hyrax, tsl xl’s and boggers. I run a set of pitbull rock beast XL, and a set of ottsix KLR’s... just mounted the stock traxxas’s to a set of SSD beadlocks. Truth be told, i love whatever tire im running at that moment. I swear the previous set wasnt near as good.

Ive had little issue mounting proline tires in 1.9 size. A had 2.2 tsl XL’s give me trouble mounting to raceline wheels, but took my time and mounted eventually...

Sometimes I just feel too many choices, don’t know which to choose.[emoji16]

Just my $0.02, but I think any of the tires mentioned here would make you happy. They all perform great! Take a look at pictures of all the tires mentioned here on TRXs and pick the set that look the best to you. You won't be disappointed in the performance of any of them.

Personally, I run Proline TSL XLs on Gear Head beadlocks and love 'em. "thumbsup"

My personal favorites of the large 1.9 tires are Hyraxes, Rock Beast XL, and Super Swamper TSL XL. I have not ran the Proline Krawlers but they look pretty good.

As for mounting Proline tires, I only have issues on RC4WD wheels.

The stock tires are not bad but the stock foams are a problem once they get wet. I have been very pleased with my Pit Bull Growlers in the Alien compound with the CI foams.

Yeah the rubber compound from Proline is so sticky I think the tread pattern almost doesn't matter. After I discovered how sticky the proline tires were I outfitted all of my rigs with them. My favorite Proline tires are the Krawler T/A's.
I have no experience with Pitbull tires but they look to perform really well too.

I can say avoid RC4WD tires, their compound is possibly worse than stock, anyway its pretty hard (not soft and sticky) and likely only good for dirt, terrible on the rocks in my experience. Its a shame they make so many licensed tires yet use such a bad compound.

RC4WD's tires in their new X2S3 are as good as anything, they are pretty close in feel to PB's Alien Compound. It is a shame the selection of tires in the new compound is limited at the moment but a set of 4.75 MTRs would be pretty sweet on the TRX4.

I do agree the Proline Krawlers are awesome though. They are probably my favorite tall 1.9 tire right now.

Thats good to know thanks, now I'm wondering what compound I tried. After a quick check it looks like I've tried the X2 and X3 compounds. So is the X2S3 different from the X2 compound?

Yeah, RC4WD really needs to come up with some new names for their tire compounds.

X3 - Old compound, rock hard, not soft or sticky
X2SS - Previous compound (most common of the RC4WD tires), moderately soft but not so sticky
X2S3 - New compound, quite soft and sticky

I agree. I did cut extra sipes into mine though and a set of DIY 2 stage foams and they're impressive "thumbsup"

Just curious to what you used to make those tiny cuts ? Looks like you didn't just cut them.with a knife. Good job, looks very uniform. Not that I have terrible terrible OCD!

Wasn't sure if I'd mess them up or not but thought I'd take the risk. They are quite superb on rock now.

I cut them with a dremel type grinder (Parkside Lidl special!) using what I can only describe as a mini cutting disk. Just like a 25mm dia. version of a 1mm thick 4.5" cutting disc that came with the Lidl kit.
