“Lucky Truck” The luck we have some times

The short story goes…

I bought a Gen8 PACK when it came out and was on sale, mainly for spare parts but also had this incision to make a John Deer tractor out of the chassis from one of my sons toys and make a lawnmower tow behind to cut the grass at the house and had been sitting for awhile.

Well we went to PLBTF again this year and won a SCX10iii early Bronco during the last nights raffle and one of the last items to be given away. So excited for it gave my ticket to my son and go pick it up. Grinning from ear to ear we brought it home.

Started thinking about it and just couldn’t bring my self letting my 6 year old bash a new chassis. Got to thinking and remembering that the PACK and all I had to do was swap everything over and have a beautiful new platform to work with.

Now to decide on a body, kinda want to do a hard body, the cliffhanger is intriguing… happened to have the Bronco on the workbench next to my LST2 with a PL Ram 1500 QC for a revo. And it clicked, I can just about match my 1:1.

Picked up Pit Bull Growlers for the tires. Now to decide what direction for the body

That is awesome. Congratulations!!!!

Your project sounds great and useful if it can actually mow... specially getting your kid involved! That's one of the reasons I love the Hobby.

The old ram body has been discontinued so that’s out the door. The injora Cherokee half cab and cage is starting to appeal to me again.

I’ll see if I can find the lawnmower in the storage boxes. It was pretty simple and very crudely built. Imagine a 10” round cake pan upside down, an old 540 fixed in the middle direct to a 6cell nimh originally, now it would be a 2s or whatever you would want. I used a prop adapter with a hole drilled in between the hub and a nut to secure the string trimmer line, a propeller prop worked too but needed a hole on the top or a side discharge. . It worked until it clogged up when the grass was wet, or just mulched back to the ground. I’d really like to refine it and make a cleaner cut with the Bermuda we have now. It was a good time killer in the front yard about 8k sqft. I was never able to finish it in one go around. And was half done most of the time.

There are only a few videos that I have seen online and someone 3D printing some of the pieces, This is not mine but really similar.

I just have a dislike of the blade attachment on something printed. A regular edger blade was too heavy and would bog the motor. I’m sure a cheap high kv brushless would do much better with the string attachment.

Made some progress on the truck, wanting a new motor but maybe going through the parts bin. Still can’t decide on a body.

Ordered some parts for the new lawnmower deck, and needing to figure out a way to mount the tires better and have some adjustability. Pictures to come with it along with a build thread on it.

that looks like a rc truck to me lol that ultra clear body on it kinda leave me guessin lol

on your trimmer issue the brushless outrunners would work really good for that im sure and there cheap about $20 and usualy come wth a prop adaptor
the escs are cheap too the ones im using run are usually under $20 on ebay

It’s a beautiful day… and usps came earlier than expected and HH delivers quality products like always. Very happy…

I was concerned and debated for a long time on either the 10t or the 12t being that the 10iii has the 2 speed option. But wound up with the 10t since I can always limit the throttle or wind it out in first. But very happy with the purchase. Can’t wait for more time and getting some wrench time in it.

A little ups date it has been a long time coming. I’ve had a few hours around the house and works as expected. One shock leaks is the only negative. I tore it all apart, make sure there was lube where it should have been if there wasn’t (it actually came pretty sufficient) and kept the dig. It won’t ever need the two speed with the motor, which it’s been a long time since I’ve had a nice hand wound (thanks HH!). The servo I originally bought for it found it’s way to the GK which is currently on the bench.

Injora body came in. I’ll color match it to my sisters Jeep (granite crystal metallic) then take it for a spin. Now time for paint and a metal cage and they them into the factory mounting. It will be kept scaleish for the most part.

Not much of an update but the Inner fenders were trimmed a bit, and rear of the body marked to cut out for the shocks through the trunk bed. Since it’s going to be a junior size of my sisters Jeep (her daughter named theirs “Showstopper”) I think it’s going to be called “The Junior Showstopper” or “TJS” time will tell if sticks.

Great score at last year's PLBTF! Love the lawnmower idea, Injora Jeep hardbody is looking good too! :)

I kind of like that Bronco body ! Maybe not so much the paint scheme.
I’ll give a shout out to Fallen, he did a really good job with minimal work making his early Bronco looking killer. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial-scx10-iii/627422-fallens-scx10-iii-bronco.html
I really dig the body, I think it was done well from Axial. Kinda makes me wish I put together another one to match my sons. It would have been easier and likely cheaper when I finish it.

Congratulations on your score !
Definitely a fun trip, wishing we could make it again this year but other things come first. Still thinking making it an overnighter.

The lawnmower is fun, wishing I can figure out the wheels.

Thanks. Been rereading about the body. It’s been awhile since I’ve had a hardbody and this one with a full interior. Plan on keeping it intact and keep the realism inside with it. I am going to have to cut out the firewall a bit for the 10.3 trans but think I can mask it pretty easily.
